You'd think, being that they print some of the rumours that eminate from here from time to time, they'd at least have the decency to update the website a bit quicker.

Good News about Ben anyway, just waiting for Vikingwoman to appear now with a reference to Lurpack....

I know a few of us have been wondering about those who "signed" 2 yr contract last year and if they were still signed up for this coming season.

The wording of Ben's announcent on the official club site answers this for me. "The club have snapped up 2010 hero, Ben Black, for the upcoming season" and "Matt Calland was happy to get last years match winner signed up".

So this answers my question as Blacky was announced on a 2 yr deal last season and therefore those on 2 yr deals for me most certainly aren't on them anymore.

It's a good job we aint governed by the NRL! (And before I begin i'll state Widnes did similar last season when taking people off full time deals to part time). When the Melbourne cap issue came up Smith, Inglis, Slater, Cronk etc all offered to take pay cuts to stay together at the Storm... however Gallop (NRL CEO) barred them from doing so on the basis that when they were offered, signed and got paid on those deals it was because they were the best on the market for them... beating other clubs offers etc, yet now circumstances were different they were not allowed to do that as it broke the salary caps principles etc... quite an interesting story in it all worth sharing

Your logic is sound. I can only assume the club must have put some sort of get out clause in the contracts or they were all one year with an option. I don't believe for a second that we bought them all out.

My understanding is that the only causes that tend to be in players contracts are those allowing them to "talk" to potential SL clubs if approached (as a rule). I doubt very much a clause would be in said players contracts regarding the re-negotiating of contracts should the club hit the buffers financially or similar issues. Any players doing so or that have done so have done it voluntarily, Messrs Black, Penky, Beswick, Maloney etc were all definitely signed on 2 year deals.

Some may dig there heels in and the club will either allow them to leave, or like Blacky will renegotiate a new deal. So I can only assume the rest are still negotiating with Fax or other clubs.

The one major plus we have in our favour is that all clubs are operating a tightrope when it somes to finances and I doubt many clubs will be able to offer substancially better terms to negate a move elsewhere. Plus playing for the Champions elect does put you in a better shop window!!!





I've nver suggested the club paid the contracts up just merely pointed out the wording suggests what many of us have been thinking . . . . . . . Those players on 2 year deals are not signed, sealed and delivered as we thought.

This is no surprise as I knew Ben was staying ages ago he was back at training on the 1st day this deal was sealed
weeks ago.

Chuffed with this news as Blacky came back to the form we all remember when he first came to us at the end of last season, when we needed him the most!

I mentioned on another thread that the rumour this side of the hill, is that we are close to signing some new attacking talent; I believe its someone with SL experience but not first choice at current club.

I'd prefer it if we'd hang on to Bowman, he went well when he played for us last year.

regarding the two year deals certain players must have dug thier heels in said they wont alter thier contracts because weeks ago, the courier said worrrincey, haley, paterson, penky and 1 more i cant remember were contracted for next year.

(Unfortunately) my current side of the hill is Lancashire (work) and Merseyside (home).

I like bowman and called for him to play more often last year, however I heard a rumour that bowman has an "application" problem in that he isn't putting in the effort required in training etc.

Was talking to andy few months back and he said that antony was fully fit but just could not get anywhere near the first team even when we were struggling with injurys, he also mentioned that antony was in talks with huddersfield about this season.
