Perhaps, if the stadium manager, or some other fool from the council is reading, he/she may wish to read/respond to this

| My reply to the thread on the Virtual Terrace...
Please rest assured that our disabled supprters at the top of the East Stand were NOT "left to die" on Sunday.
The Stadium Safety Officer and 4 stewards went to the disabled viewing area immediately and took the Evac chairs with them. The Stadium Safety Officer ascertained very quickly that there was no actual fire (it was an electrical problem that caused the smoke and hence the fire alarm to go off) and that spectators would be returning to the stand as soon as the all clear was received from the Fire Brigade.
It was then explained to the disabled supporters that we would not evacuate them and the staff remained with them at all times.

| Could we not have done a wheelchair derby down the stairs of the stand . . . . . entertainment and a quick evacuation at the same time??
Perhaps not quite PC though???

| It didnt look badly organised what happened once evryone knew what was going on. Obviously it isnt an everyday occurence and is probably hard to plan for. In the South Stand we had no idea as to what was going on and whether we were to leave the stand or not due to the tannoy system been crap. We obviously heard the alarm going off for about 5 minutes before it seemed anybody realised it was a fire alarm. It did however appear that it took the 4th official running on the pitch to inform the ref to stop the game before people realised what was going on, i guess we can hope this wasnt the case and an announcment was given out long before this.

| In response to Sarah's post, the main problem that I and the other wheelchair users encountered was that we were not informed what was happening for at least 5 minutes whilst we waited by the staircase. After we arrived at the lift, which was switched off for safety reasons, a chap with a walkie talkie told us to hang on whilst he found out if it was a false alarm. None of us were worrying, but no other members of staff remained with us during that wait. He eventually returned and told us to return to our seating area but we were left without information for what could have been a critical period if it had been a proper fire. An evac-chair was present at the top of the stairs, but I don't know whether there is more than one available to cope with the few wheelchair users stranded up there.

| Remember what you saw on the way into the ground? The Fire Brigade were already on-site. No need for any panic!
