Noticed on Sunday that the pitch looked very much the same as it did at the end of the Siddal game, where the pitch had stood up pretty well. A memeber of the Fax staff remarked that nowt had been done to it. Of course it did start raining/snowing.hailing from mid morning onwards but up until 10.30 it was not too bad.
At the end of Sundays match it was pretty cut up.
Having just spoken to a friend of mine who is a footy season ticket holder he understands the relations between the groundstaff and the Fax coaching staff are at an all time low with accusations of Fax training on the field again and a major row developing.
In light of one of the reasons the double header was not allowed was so they could work on the ground in between it seems strange no work had been done after the Siddal game (Finished in dry weather at 2.30pm) or first thing Sunday morning.
Just wonder if it is time some better quality groundstaff were employed?
Who employs them, is it a part of full time job (just looking after the pitch could be done well and professionally in 2 days a week plus a few hours after each game)? How many of them are they and how experienced are they, have they more allegiance to football?. The only time we see them is when they wander round at half time with those long handled forks poking the divets.
We have some very experienced and well qualified groundsmen in Calderdale who could sort out the Shay surface.
Perhaps like others at the Shay they are just travelling on the gravy train.
Thought these comments on footy web site might be interesting!!

Oh eck you have started something now.
My view is the lads at the Shay are good lads and good groundsmen BUT they have been allowed to become TOO IMPORTANT, almost God like by not being managed.
Why do I sat that?
Well take a look at the barriers in the South Stand, why have they not been painted for years and years and are now rusting???
This should be part of the groundmens job and there are TWO of them plus a Stadium Manager.
If some people come on here having a go at us for discussing this on here well tough, we pay thses guys wages now as Council taxpayers so we have a right to comment.
I must add though that Fax should respect the pitch yes, if the training is outside the 'quota' of hours the club has then its not on, if it is part of the hours we have now not having a U21s or Reserves then tough, you do not dictate to a client who is paying you in my book.

| The pitch would stand up better for both football and rugby if it was not cut to a quarter of an inch three times a week in my opinion.

Donkeys years ago when the groundsmen were employed by the council as they are now I knew the head groundsman and during certain times of the week you would see him cutting grass elsewhere ,Savile Park and on grass verges up and down.He later went on to be groundsman at Headingly,I wonder what what they have to do during the summer when they don`t have to cut the grass every other day for the puffball. The place looks unkempt do they ever do anything other than cut grass ?

| As for maintinence (or lack of it) Did anyone see all the water pouring off the roof of the southstand on Sunday? In the corner where the Away team and ref enter the field.
But at the same time I did notice the toilets have being painted, all the wood around the tops of the sinks ect is now a Dark Grey, I'm sure it was the same Blue as the Safety Bars on the terracing before.

| Part the problem is the waste of space footballers! The grass being cut so short does not help it take the punishment of the weather as well as Sports being played on it. And you can see that the pitch is "Marked" around the goal mouths especially
The Soccer muppets as ever decide to blame the Rugby club for its own mistakes and then as ever make stories up which I hope somebody follows through with a court order as some of the stuff must be libel! Its this reason why I would never ever begin to support the soccer club due to the idots who support them. And that group is more than a small number.
Also its a bit rich about saying Fax do not pay their bills-remind me who left debts of million pound or so before going under.
Also the Groundsmans job surely involves more than the pitch-Making sure things are clean, broken fences or facilities are repaired etc. I know its a building site now but I hope in future more attention is payed to other things than just the pitch

| dont know how they can go on about the state of the pitch, total bozzo's, i still play football on a saturday, and i know where the pitch gets knackerd, in each goal mouth u will find bare patches, on what ever pitch u play on this time of the year,, it just so happens they found a pic of gleeson scoring a try in that very patch, ohh lets blame the rugby for that, sorry boys but u r so so wrong, football does more damage then rugby, get used to the fact,,, and get used to the fact we use the pitch, we pay rent, so wine on as much as u like, we have a first class team, going places, not a second rate pub team, going nowhere

| We were told the groundstaff wanted either a double header on sunday or games on fri and sunday, when decision made to play sat and sun groundstaff went to Durham to watch Town n weren't working on sunday!Time sumone gave them a kick up the bum and reminded them that supporters of both teams pay there wages, they are employed as groundstaff for the ground n not just Town and that the "ground "covers more than just the pitch. The water was cascading of both ends of the South stand on sunday at this rate that stand will need millions spending on it when the East is finished because it is just being left to deteriorate. How much would it cost to get some down piping adn fix it up to avoid this.Stadium management-couldn't manage a trip round John Smiths!

don't think more can be done about the pitch to be honest.
it is the minority of people that complane about the rugby so dont call f.c halifax town a second rate pub team.
least we never golt relegated from a division with no points before did we.
if your going to call my first club a pub team i will take the mick about us getting relegated without a single point. now can we stop having a dig at each other as much as we can and just get on with what we do.
plus it has nothing to do with football the mud patches in the goals they could have done something about it but halifax town had not played on that pitch for a month at the time.

ok fair enough on most of your points, we can end them there,, but for the last one, sorry cant agree, the mud patches are all down to the football in the goal area, i know as i am a goalkeeper and play every saturday, and i know what happens in the goal erea, all goal mouths are like that this time of the year,,,

| The Soccer Muppets would be best supporting their team that CONTINUALLY fails to impress at even Pub League Standards instead of looking to blame Fax or the game of Rugby League for the Pitch.
Thing is its not a uniqure problem to us. Huddersfield Giants, Wigan, hull FC have all problems with the Soccer lot who blame them for this that and the other or create problems

Town are challenging but will not get promotion. The crowds will drop again and they will remain in the Pub League forever more. Halifax Town are going nowhere and nothing more than what a large number of the fans deserve. Its a shame on the decent fans that they not only have a poor team that continually fails even at the lowest levels but has such fans that blame everybody but the soccer club and players

My worry is, that while the East Stand will get finished off, the rest of the ground will detioriate furthur.
How many other Council Owned Facilities are on the same downhill slope, schools ect.
If the Town Hall's condition was to get in such a mess, the person in charge of maintinence would surely have their competancy questioned. Same goes for any other council owned building no?

What do you suggest though Brew if there isnt the money there to upkeep the Shay as a facility?
We have seen how SST has struggled with its maintenance and since the Council came in they have paid for some of important jobs doing. But they aint going to continue to fund all the works.
Part of me is beginning to realise the Shay is far too big for a club in the lower reaches of the football pyramid and a club in a sport where there is no promotion. Neither club has the potential of attracting crowds which will even half fill the stadium.

Surely water pouring off the roof is a problem, though one that could be resolved by something as simple as clearing the downpipes?
I honestly believe that in a couple of years or so we could see the end of the Skircoat Stand, Its old as it is and will see little or no use once the East Stand is opened.
