| I went tonight and I felt that there were a lot of positives. Paterson got 100% with his old boots and the tackles that went in were immense. The commitment in defence was there but the flow in attack just needs more work.
There were times last year that we would have leaked a lot of points in that game.
Looking forward to seeing us improve further.

I agree - The attack will come with time - but the defence looks solid and we are hitting hard.

| I think turning up late and starting the game straight from the warm up probably didn't help either. The guys didn't quite seem to be with it at times. Although Sheffield scored from pretty much two of four real chances that they had. They certainly weren't that impressive themselves.

| I see the "herd" mentality is still here, one ex fan is entitled to his opinion, some of you don't like it and you start playing the sheep all ganging up. In the real world everyone has different opinions, doesn't mean you have to wet your pants over it and gang up like your in the school playground again.

I don't need to be in a gang to recognise that he's a prick. His posting history is testament to that. Everytime he posts crap I'll temper it with a reply.

| Quote ="The Lucky Black Cat"To be honest the loss may do us good as it makes the players realize they are not unbeatable. It also takes the pressure away a little of going through unbeaten. We needed a tough game after London and not having a proper pre season. Ratrher lose now than later in the season We certainly did not have a good preparation being stuck in traffic due to an accident on the motorway and missing the likes of Black, Maloney, Aizue, Greenwood does weaken us a little. Well done Sheffield and shows once again they will be a major threat to Fax, Widnes and Barrow'"

| I thought it was a decent performace really considering the preperation. Some of the defence was very good especially our scrambling defence. Sayeeeeeds monster hit was worth the admission price alone. We didnt click in attack but it wasnt really our pitch or weather to do that so im not overly concerened. It was really our first decent hit up and in that sense it was a good game for us and as strange as it seems the result will do us a favour. A loss early doors takes some of the pressure off because no one will remember the circumstances but just the result.
Gareth Hewer was a disgrace. He didnt cost us the game or anything like that but a few of his decisions were poor to say the least. Sheffield player held up over our line, he gave a 20 metre restart. Sheffield kick touches one of our players and hits the corner flag, he was giving a 10 metre scrum until the linesman intervined. Patterson kicks ahead chases the kick and makes the tackle himself, the genius Hewer is gives a penalty for offside. I mean hes got bright red boots on how did he not know he had kicked it. Tamghart gets a clear spear tackle against him, no penalty. We get penalised for not playing the ball correctly but 2 out of the next five play the balls are not played by the players foot.
Overall Sheffield are dark horses for me, they probably have the 3rd best team on paper in the league and may go under the radar so to speak of a lot of teams. So on that basis i dont think its a bad result.

| We will be in the mix at the business end when it matters. Last night wasnt too much of a concern as the top spot in the group doesnt assure a home tie next time...unless someone knows different. Sheff will always deserve some credit as they play to their strengths. I couldnt go last night as i was working but there are many positive comments from those who did. Well done to them but Fax are nowhere near the finished article at present.

Spot on we are a bit lacking in attack at the moment especially near the opponents line, we need to improve our kicking game and Mr Brannigan needs to improve as I am sure he will he is new to us and he won't know them but defence was awesome one try apart!
Penky is looking hot and so is Patterson.

I thought Brannigans kicking last night was excellent. Espcecialy in the first half. Always splitting the winger and full back.

| Kicks in play were good and defence was committed all over the park. Sheffield looked poor but we were worse in all fairness. Some dumb penalties gifting them filed position, wayward passes when it mattered on their line and 2 errors lead to 2 scores. Spoiling tactics were out in force from the opposition as well which got more than annoying.
A fairly dire game from a spectator point of view all in all but we'll get better.

At this time of the season no team will be perfect. You mention spoiling tactics by Sheffield, but 'Fax are not innocent.
Ever thought the wayward passes could be the result of pressure by the opposition?
Many comments have gone on about preparation and team members. The same applies to all teams, and you have to play with what you have got available, and if you lose, then the team who wins had a better team on the day. Eagles have several players still to return, it was only the 2nd competitive match of the season and having had 2 pre-season games, not ideal preparation after our players had to come from various parts of the north, some from PNG and Aus and even over the Pennines.
Getting stuck in traffic is not a new experience for any team. The way the game is played depends on their ability to cope with the "pressure"
Fax have been guilty, just as much as every team as giving away dumb penalties in the heat of the moment and lacking concentration when they should be focused.
Refereeing decisions are continuing to be a concern at all matches in the NRC and SL and sometimes I along with many many others, do not see how the officials translate the rules of the game on paper into the actions on the field. No-one is perfect, none of the players go through a game without making errors, because they are human, so are the referees (allegedly), so mistakes in making decisions cannot always be placed at the door of the ref.
Eagles beat 'Fax comprehensively at The Shay last season, and at DVS. The size of the pitch moan is tiring as it is the same size it has been snce 1991 when the first RL game was played on it. It has NEVER changed, even when the "Blue Sox" played on it in SL days and before, so PLEASE will folks stop going on about it. There are FAR WORSE pitches in the SL and Championship.
At least it is flat, it does not have dangerous concrete/metal fencing surrounding it, it is a complete ground and everyone is seated. The running track is a nuisance, but it is better to have a ground than not.

I thought I'd ask before scrolling through umpteen posts!
Good to hear, I rate Brannigan although liken him a little to Ben Black so it will be interesting to see how they work together, although I may be wrong and may have read that they have played together at a younger age group before?
Anyway, I'll look forward to watching him on TV in a few weeks.

If the poster has anything positive to say about the club then I would show him some respect. he NEVER goes to games according to him and is an Ex fan. How does he know how Fax played if he never goes to games and just criticizes all the time?Do you not think such an idiot is likely to get a load of grief?

But yes, no one really cares. If the SL teams came in after the group stages some may then take note.
