What a difference 9 months make. I was on the end of some proper hardcore stick at 'Fax last year prior to a fantastic comeback by Leigh, then there was still some arrogant comments from your 'so-called' fans as you won the game !
I look forward to our league encounters this year and hope they are both televised.

Watene IMO was awful. He was at fault for at least 3 of their tries, throwing an interception pass with no tackles on the board, not putting any pressure on Wobbie for him to put in a pinpoint kick for Leigh to score and lazy defence on the line enabling the Leigh man to beat him for a try. He doesn't bust through the line 1/10 of the times a man of his size and speed should and he rarely lasts more than 15 minutes at a time. Aizue was on a par for poorness as well, it seems he thinks he is too good for this league, he needs a wake up call.

Only Shad (as usual) Paterson and Maloney could hold their heads high after today. Penky had a below par game because he is not a stand off. He tries bless him but he simply isn't a half back, like Usain Bolt running a marathon, it isn't going to work. When he went back to hooker, he set up our only 2 tries of the game.

I agree with the Haighmiester, Watene for me just does not cut it, 1 good game out of 5.

They were all awful today apart from Stan, and maybe Maka and Dom.

How anyone can say Lord Gene doesn't try in a game needs to watch him closely (as I did today), when most of your lazy sods were/ couldn't be bothered to tackle our guys - Stan did. He ran more yardage in defence than anyone else to close down our attackers today.

last 2 home games have been YOUR worst for a few years, BUT some comments are a little OTT. We lost at York, but easily beat Fax & Fev, some strange results already this season - maybe Halifax fans will be feeling a whole lot better in 2 weeks or so. Read both threads concerning Calland and the performance today and the silence from the "Calland In" crowd is deafening. Todays performance is a culmination of poor coaching, discipline and organisation that in my opinion has been on-going for some time. Personally for me Calland should have gone before last season got underway after his "incident" in Halifax. The Grand Final merely served as a superb smoke screen and papered over a number of cracks that were starting to appear in Callands coaching ability. When it truly mattered last season in the "major" games we blew it and I have always bemoaned Callands ability to really get any of his teams highly charged and passionate. Today was a prime example. Champagne corks freshly popped on a new era for the Town, club and stadium and what happens? - The worst performance in many years.

Millward played superb mind games during the week complimenting our speed out wide, whilst plotting to batter us up the middle, in fact they battered us in every department and as many previous posters have mentioned a large majority of their team were well beaten by us less than 12 months ago. What a difference a coach makes!! - I thought Leigh were SUPERB today and played how I want every Fax side to play . . . . . . For each other. They were led well by Paul around the park and played good, hard, basic rugby and looked to offload at the right time but were patient and built momentum.

Calland must (hell as got to) go but I am not sure the BOD are strong enough to make such a decision. As much as I was berated for mentioning on here a players comments made to our group last week (just how true were those supposed flippant comments?)........As I have always said where HRLFC and rumours are concerned there is normally some truth, no smoke without fire and all that. Halifax actually look like a side who don't train or know each other saying that and players sound like rats wanting to desert a sinking ship if the other rumours have any element of truth to them.

I take no pleasure in seeing my team play like that but sacking Calland is no "knee-jerk" reaction it is a decision that needs making for the good of the club moving forward and damn quick before the season is over before it has got going. We need fresh impetus with a whole new back room setup and I personally would bring in someone with no links to the club. We've appointed on sentiment before with TA and I'm not sure Rhino is the answer right now.

As for the Champ 1 comment, bit cheeky, but fair. Might want to keep quiet on the subject of relegation to champ 1 if this form continues though!

They only "battered us up the middle" as you put it because we kept gifting them the ball to be able to do it !
We missed Wrenchy who was obviously injured for his second spell, he's tackled everything this season. Maloney was the only other forward who gave it to Leigh's forwards regularly, the players as a group/team were awful, see it as me being one of the "Calland-in" brigade if you like, but I am absolutely convinced that he doesn't ask them to pass the ball to the ground, behind the target, over the target's head, some players are taking the rise out of the paying customer and many of them should be ashamed of their two recent performances. THEY are the ones who effect what happens on the field of play, we all know that.
I got invited for a drink after the game with a very old playing colleague of mine Nigel Wood and I was so embarrassed I made my excuses and left the stadium at the final hooter, why should I feel like that ?
BECAUSE I CARE about my team and I am totally embarrassed that our "big day" was yet another one to forget. Mr Wood was very impressed with our new surroundings by the way.

could not agree more, my sentiments exactly.
some of, sorry most of the passing today was bad.
as was a lot of the tackling/ball handling in general.
that is down to the players.
although as pointed out earlier, why was penky at 6 when everyone knows he is best at 9.
it did not work last year and wont this year.

its now nearly 10 am on monday and no story from courier about the match why ? do they know something and cant say or are they waiting for an official announcment from the club or am i just being "optimistic" ?

you will find it will be mid afternoon before they put anything on there, for some reason they dont update it till then for the fax stories, they used to do it about 8.30 every morning,

of late have noticed the courier puts todays news on later than usual, maybe aimed at getting people to buy the paper instead of reading for free online. the times are about to start charging for online users due to this.

The defeat yesterday might be little to do with the quality of the opposition. I found the following in an old book published in the 1930's called The Story of Old Halifax by a man called T.W. Hanson. The section is entitled 'The Shay Curse'. Interestingly, subsequent reprints of the this book have omitted this information.

[iAfter Shay Hall was demolished in 1903 (in order to build Skircoat Road), the Shay site was taken over by the Halifax Corporation and used primarily as a rubbish tip. Just before the outbreak of The Great War, a group of Romany travellers set up camp there and, despite the protestations of nearby residents on newly built Heath Park Avenue and Heath Hall, refused to leave. In an attempt to help the war effort as well as to encourage the itinerants to move on, the site was partitioned and one side was used by the Territorial Army for shooting practice. Unfortunately, a stray bullet killed one of the traveller's horses. Shortly after this incident the gypsies promptly left and sought pastures new.
