Quote ="johnny freeman fan club"I can remember when Karl Harrison, John Fieldhouse and Mark Preston came down to the Shay a few years ago and the talk turned around to the way the role of a winger in the team had changed since the days when Mark played. In Marks day the wingers stayed very much to the wing and did not "come in " like they do now. The two ex props were gently pokeing fun at Mark over this and also kidding him as to how to some extent the props felt they should " look after" the more diminutive wingers to which Mark just smiled.
So then someone asked if they had suffered any injuries and Karl told of "broken this and that and John had amongst other things a broken jaw. They both looked at Preston awaiting his answer so Mark replied " I remember a time over at Leeds a game that got a bit rough and I ended up with a very badly mussed up hairdo". It wasn`t pretty I can tell you. The audience and the two ex props had a good laugh at that.
[size=150I do remember Mark geting injured though, wasn`t it because of a particularly bad tackle on him by a Leeds player that lit the time bomb in the Easter match at Thrum Hall where we had 2 sent off and the " infamous what a waste of money "came from every Fax fan in the ground.Or am I mixing my matches up.[/sizeAnother memory I have of Mark was he was the first person I knew who had a personel number plate FAX 5 and when he arrived at a game one day someone asked him about it. He replied " I like my number plate as when I am traveling along the M62 people know I play for Halifax and thats where I`m going or coming away from.'"
Think your right about the match but the "what a waste of money" chant came from the previous Good Friday game when we beat them at Headingly when Henry Sharp went around Hanley and Heugh like they wernt even there, also the same game Preston played the ball the wrong way when he got clattered in the tackle and Milner chinned Morvin Edwards for biting him.
