Says more about his nosey neighbours than it does about him. I know quite a lot of naturists (I'm not personally, but married into a family of them) and the idea that they all go about perving and committing sexual acts is laughable. At my parents in laws club the average is around 70, so everything you see is either wrinkled or going south fast

This reminds me of a case in 2006, where a woman was taken to court for sunbathing in her garden in the nude.

She'd done it for years with no problem, in a space that she felt was private. She was cleared by the court, but the neighbour's comments were those of an hysterical prude, rabbiting on along the lines of: 'won't somebody think of the children!' The viewpoint that all naturists are perverts is pretty much in line with the other view that DM readers have that all gay men are sexual predators seeking out other men to "turn" them.

I don't know where I heard the comment but it was from a gay man who said to a "straight" man, "Do you always fancy EVERY woman you look at and want to have sex with them instantly even in public toilets, communal changing rooms, showers etc?". When the reply was "No" the penny dropped.

The BN (British Naturism) have strict rules on who can go to their affiliated sites. Single men are not allowed unless they have been part of a known naturist family. You also have to be a member of the BN to stay on a site. And I'll also bust the myth that they are all exhibitionists. My PILs go naturist in their back garden, but only where they absolutely know no one can see (they have their place away from neighbours windows) and clothes are soon put on when someone visits. Their site is also so well hidden, you wouldn't know it was there. There is also a site in Hull that probably not many people know is there either.

Come on – this is a country where it's still considered 'proper' to wear a swimming cossie in a sauna, FFS! Even though that is as daft as wearing one in a shower or bath, and actually can produce health problems as you sweat and the sweat cannot escape – you can get fungal infections in places where the flesh creases, such as under the breasts or in the groin area.

And yet we look at people who do actually use a sauna properly and assume something sexual by their nudity. This remains a country that somehow manages to combine prudery and prurience.

And it's effing bonkers.

I don't know about "manages to combine", I'd suggest that not only does prurience flourish best in the midst of prudery but also that prudery, by limiting and proscribing, actually [uencourages[/u prurience.

Where a laydee is covered from head to foot, the merest glimpse of her ankle becomes a "Phwoar !" moment but in societies where near-nakedness is the norm, not an eye is blinked.

Reminds me abit of a case a few years ago (think it was in the good ol' US of A) where a guy was stuck with an indecent exposure charge, as he was naked in his own house and a woman and child who where trespassing across his garden to take a short cut saw him and reported it to the rozzers.

Long as they arent harming anyone whats the bother, pretty sure kids see much worse than a naked old man sunbathing.

Not for me, as I'm quite used to seeing ankles.
But for someone in a society where it's forbidden, where flesh is accidentally or deliberately exposed, yes.

I'm not saying that a tiny flash of ankle will lead to raging irresistible urges ... just that covering-up, on the grounds that exposure leads inevitably to sexual thoughts, is a self-fulfilling prophecy.
