| Just been almost reversed into by an articulated flat bed lorry colleting heavy plant from a site near where I am, the lorry was rolling backwards with Hazards on, got to within four feet of my fron bumpre and then accelerated quickly (beyond anything down to simply the gradient of the road), so I stuck mine into revers, went back about ten metres and then, angrily I admit, swerverd and drove in front to "have a word" with the driver, the cab had reversing lights on. I stopped and walked up to him and said "did you know the reverse light on the trailer aren't working", to which he replied, "don't need reverse lights on the trailer, just the cab"
Now, to me, that sounds like bollox, but before I make a call and get all shouty, would I be making a fool of myself?
thanks in advance

If I am doing a CDM package for a site, I always insist that all plant, lorries etc have reversing lights and audible alarms as part of any traffic management strategy. I struggle to think of any time I have not seen this on a site.

| If the trailer physically had lights fitted, but they weren't connected properly or working then as I understand it that is Illegal.

Would add a banksman to that too on a construction site. Not sure about a haulage yard though

Just to clarify, the guy was picking up plant from a site adjacent to the road, this guy was reversing down the road to park up, so site safety rules (whilst sensible) woudln't apply I don't believe.

Strictly speaking maybe not, but if the site onfiguration meant that their driver had to perform said manouevre then a decent Contractor would take responsibility. Duty of care also applies. If you can be bothered I would suggest speaking to site manager and the companies Health and Safety manager.
