At last someone spells out the truth - that the EUs main player(s) are desperate to keep the UK in. Time for the government to step up their demands. All the idiots were saying Cameron was deluded if he thought he could get concessions. Doesn't this show that obvious - that they need us and will be willing to move the goalposts (and hopefully isolate the French in the process).

| Does the fact that David Cameron keeps telling the Scots that we want them to remain in the Union, reveal that really Alex Salmond should step up his demands from the British government?

Europe doesn't need the UK. The UK is finished:
Quote ="Dally"The UK's rating should be way less. It has only held up because we have had a history of getting out of messes, the government talked a good story when they came in, the government and Bank were given the benefit of the doubt and as everywhere else looked dodgy sentiment said the UK was a relative safe haven (purely for historic reasons). As reality gradually outs - that despite efforts things are getting worse at an alarming rate the markets have to face facts. When they do they will be brutal to the UK and we'll all be in the brown stuff. If you are under 35 emigrate now.'"

What concessions do you want exactly? Concessions to reduce our employment rights even further?
Those are the only ones he is going to get because the single market Cameron is in favour of means free movement of labour i.e. he can't and won't stop immigration from other EU countries to the UK. Which I guess is what you are really interested in.
Dally - another Turkey voting for Christmas.

| The EU does need some things amending in the areas of (inter alia) CAP, location of plenary sessions, fiscal union in the Eurozone etc etc.
These things would be discussed anyway but my guess is that Cameron will dress the results up as concessions he has gained for Britain.
If he gets anything at all in the area of employment law it will be to the detriment of UK employees.
Is that what Dally wants FFS?

Even then, can you really imagine the other 26 nations voting to allow us a competitive advantage?

I think Germany under Merkel would be OK with it. The French could probably be bought off. There are quite a few right wing governments in the EU who probably wouldn't mind their workforces being forced down the same track anyway.
It's about time people in this country started asking [iwhat[/i concessions Cameron wants and not taking the idiotic stance that if he can win [iany[/i concessions it is a good thing.

The autumn election will be very interesting. Merkel and the CDU have been taking some big ballot box hits in regional elections in very unexpected areas in recent months, with major defeats in North Rhine-Westphalia, Baden-Württemberg and Schleswig-Holstein now followed by defeat in Lower Saxony.
She's currently scrabbling to distance herself from the business-friendly FDP, her junior coalition partner.
Only last month, [iSüddeutsche Zeitung[/i this week described the FDP as being about as "unpopular as athlete's foot and halitosis combined."

Indeed.
As it stands he can waffle about "stifling business", "red tape", "faceless bureaucrats" etc ... and the Bill Cash tendency will just lap it up as long as they think it's one small step closer to leaving the EU.

Bill Cash, Peter Tapsell, Edward Leigh, amazed these characters are still around.
Seem to have been knocking around since I were a lad.
