How long before putting out a fire is deemed to be uneconomical?

I can't find the link but I read a comment yesterday on this issue that was on the lines of "Public services are SUPPOSED to cost money, THATS what we pay our taxes for..." there are economies to be made but if you want to have a specialist fire and rescue service then you have to accept that its going to cost you money and its not a profit making business model if you want to maintain the current level of service.

One of Boris's mates bought a load of London Fire Stations for £1 last year. I e-mailed him and offered him £20 and surprisingly heard nothing. Now given that he'd make a 1900% markup in less than a week, I expected him to bite my hand off

I don't know if this happens anywhere else but our local fire station (a full time station) has a car boot sale once a month in the car park and on the front yard, they close the station for four hours while they have a car boot sale.

I didn't quite believe it at first but they've been doing it for about two years now, I'm sure that Will Hay did something similar.

Where can I get some DVD's of Trumpton?, then I can change the title sequence and call it a promotional video.

The idea of having an essential service such as the Fire Brigade being privatised is a scary thought. None of the essential services should be in private hands ever. This Government just seems to want to sell everything off to private companies.
