Great comedy and serious actor who will be long remembered for his many roles, especially as Tom Good in the Good Life and Martin in Ever Decreasing Circles

Cracking actor. Said recently in an interview that it was the cigs that finally got him. He gave up 10 years or so ago but reckoned he'd smoked 1/2 a million over his life time.

much remembered for his sit com roles, but one of the best Shakesperian actors I ever had the privilege to see, and was incredibly fortunate to meet on two occasions, a true gentleman.

I saw him as Lear in [iKing Lear[/i (with Emma Thompson as the Fool and directed by Branagh) and as Malvolio in Twelfth Night.
Not all screen actors can hack it on stage but he could and very well too.
