Finally going to Hang up my old Pentax K100 SLR and move into the modern world.

Not sure what make model etc to buy. Looked at 3 models today

1) Pentax K5
2) Nikon D5100
3) Canon 600

For any experienced photographers out there for advice on makes and models. I have a film Pentax but a tad worried as they dont appear to offer many products and additional lenses etc could be expensive to buy?

Any help greatly appreciated

Of those three I would not get the Nikon 5100.

Some Pentax offers though include relatively poor quality kit lenses to keep the overall price down. If you then buy higher quality Pentax lenses they are pretty expensive. But, you can get Sigma, etc.

That's what my gut says. Tried out the other two but not had a chance to shoot the 5100. Not just singled onto one of these 3 but don't want to spend too much money

See I do have several (old) lenses for my Pentax SLR. Are they transferable

They are in principle, but I didnot have the patience to get the hang of it. But that was when i first got the camera and was struggling to use it anyway! It depends on how old the lenses are but on mine there is a series of settings to run through. I guess I did something wrong because after each practice shot I had to reinput the settings which was unwieldy. I must try again though as my old lenses are of higher quality than the kit ones I have.
NB I [uthink[/u Pentax are unusual in having the facility to be able to use older lenses. You'd better check you can still do it on the K-5. Google search will tell you if you can and how to do so.
