Apparently the labour government failed to pay correct duty on garlic imports, falsely classifying imported garlic from China as frozen, instead of fresh, as frozen bears lower import duty (which is then paid into EU coffers).

The EU claims the UK thus fiddled its import duty by £15m, and won't pay it back.

How much garlic would you have to import to run up an import duty bill of £15,000,000 and why on earth were a Government importing that much garlic - a fruit and veg importer maybe, but a Government ?

Look in Lidl. Single bulb garlic, as opposed to the multi-clove types are Chinese. Milder and easier to slice large quantities. Be interesting to know of Lidl GMBH declared the Chinese garlic as frozen too

I find it disgusting that we were importing frozen bears from China.
