| Congratulations to all on calendar-monthly salaries, I hope your employers are truly appreciative of you giving your labour free, gratis and for nothing on 29 February. Obviously this doesn't affect those on lunar-monthly salaries or those paid weekly/fortnightly.
I wonder if we'll have a statement at PMQs congratulating the workers of this country for doing their bit in these hard times?

| Its to make up for the Queens Jubilee holiday.
So no "business leaders" will be quoted in The Mail in June moaning about how much they lost on that day.

| It's every four years though. Given an average working life of forty years, that's a fortnight's holiday you've given back to the gaffer

I'm not sure the point you're trying to make is relevant. If all months were exactly the same length, then yes, but we had feb where people work 2 or 3 days shorter than other months for the same monthly salary or working an extra day in July for the same pay as you would get in June.

To the best of my knowledge usually all those months add up to 356 days, however this year being a leap year there is one extra day, hence working one extra day for nowt.

It will be a small pay back for the time some on here spend browsing this site at their employers expense!! swing and roundabouts I would say? I bet I know who is really losing out!!

| The actual fact is people won't work for free on 29 Feb, they've just had three quarter days pay for nothing in previous years.

If you're on weekly pay, you get paid for a week; ditto fortnightly.... You don't work a day for free.

No the calendar month of February this month is 29 days (which is 2 days less than several other months).

| I don't see why this is an issue, if you work Monday to Friday only then it varies from year to year how many days you work regardless of whether it is a leap year or not, due to how many weekend days there are in a particular year. For example, in 2012 there are 105 weekend days but in 2009 and 2010 there were 104, ergo you won't work any more days in 2012 than you did in those years. In 2011 there were also 105 weekend days, so you worked 1 day less than in 2009 and 2010. Swings and roundabouts.

| Who cares about having to work a day for free ? I have done it loadsa times . Most recent one was when I went into work last Thursday during my week off and delivered a car to Hawick . A 10 hour shift unpaid . I did it to help out when my employer had nobody else available to do the job . My main reason for doing so was so I could take my little lad with me in the truck . 360 miles round trip and we had travelled less than a mile when he asked if we were nearly there . I lost count of how many times he asked me if we were near London . We had some good giggles , and for him it was a really big adventure . He ( and I ) can't wait for next time I can take him with me .
Anyone who is concerned about working a day for free would be better spending their time just being grateful that they actually have a job to go to .
I for one would rather work a day or three for free than not work at all .
