| Quote ="Charlie Sheen"Its been confirmed that microsoft will charge you £35 for every pre owned game you play on the xbox one. Microsoft have dropped a bollock with this IMO, Sony must be pi55in themselves'"
Where did you read that? All I see this as is Microsoft taking control of the used game market. It won't be that much more expensive, it'll just mean you can give Microsoft your money for used games (Which they will share with the developers).
[url=http://www.computerandvideogames.com/409184/ps4-to-regulate-used-games-like-xbox-one-report/Sony will do the same anyway[/url
As that article mentions, there isn't a cat in hells chance the big developers will accept a system where Microsoft is paying them millions of pounds for used games and Sony isn't. If anything, this move will make Microsoft FAR more popular with the developers and publishers?
What is far more likely is that both are doing it. These things will have been discussed between Sony and MS, they aren't stupid. The big game devs and publishers have long been thoroughly annoyed by the used games market, where retailers make enormous margins and they don't get a slice of the pie.
The margins on used games is more of a scandal to be honest and I'm not at all surprised that MS and the developers and publishers want their cut.

| Quote ="carl_spackler"Genuine question; what makes you say that?
I know developers have started cramming multiplayer in left, right and centre, but that's more to try and combat the pre-owned market than driven by demand. I personally have very little interest in multiplayer (at least of the online variety), and my personal circle of gaming friends is a fairly even split, if not tipped in the favour of single-player gamers. My suspicion is that the online multiplayers just shout louder, rather than outnumber single-player gamers.'"
Yep. I rarely play multi-player except on sports games, and more often than not its in person multiplayer rather than online.
I value the single player or campaign element of a game extremely highly and won't buy it for its multiplayer aspects.

Doesn't really confirm anything either way. It's a situation Sony cannot win from. They could be the white knights and say no to used game fees, but this would just lead to less support from the developers and publishers, for whom developing for the Xbox One would be much more profitable in the long term.
In reality all Sony is doing is keeping quiet and letting Microsoft take the PR hit, then they will roll out their own fees and blame the game publishers. EA wouldn't remove their charging system if this wasn't happening. Did Sony ever confirm which parts of PSN will remain free? I really can't see them letting that one slip through the net again.
One interesting rumour is the pricing of the devices. Sony to release two versions, one £280 and one £380 and Microsoft to primarily go with a mobile phone type deal rather than having to pay for the hardware (Which will surely be much more expensive than the PS4 due to the Kinnect sensor).

| Age of empires 2 has been re-released as AOE 2 HD , to be honest it looks no better than the original but for fans of the game it means you can play it again online.

I'm a tad worried that the console will cost that. But that would also give more credence to the mobile phone contract style purchase plans that are rumoured.
The games won't cost that though. Not a cat in hell's chance they would get away with that. Of course they will come down as you mention, I think full RRP of current gen titles is £59.99, but no one would charge that much. I wouldn't be surprised to see £49.99 as the full release price and even that is way too high.

TBF Amazon are just covering their asses. I've seen CD's available for pre-order listed at £50-100. With their pre-order price guarantee they always pitch new products with silly prices so they don't lose money when the actual price is announced. Also it looks good when they send you an e-mail saying "you saved x amount as the price dropped to y at the time of release.

Just a quick bump as the review scores start to filter through for The Last of Us. If anyone is undecided about whether to check this game out or not, you might want to take a look.
Currently, the game sits with a score of 95, from 51 critic reviews. The likes of Edge, IGN, DigitalSpy, Giantbomb and Eurogamer all awarding the game full marks.
I can't wait to play it.

Not long to wait for more official info now, all major press conferences at this year's E3 are happening on Monday. Unfortunately the Sony conference doesn't start until 2am UK time this year! Coffee at the ready!

| So what do we think so far?
Sony has gone down the cheap PR soundbite route, saying they won't charge for used games (Just means the developers will, you will have to pay a fee to use them online, like with EA games on this gen) and have undercut Microsoft by £80 (But you'll have to pay for the camera/Move accessory seperately no doubt?). Sony have also reportedly slipped into the small print the fact that you'll have to pay for online multiplayer gaming, which has always been one of the main points of discussion with the PS fans on here.
Exclusives look slightly stronger on Xbox to start with according to reports, the controller still looks better, it has Forza and I'm completely biased to start with. So Xbox for me. Anyone changing sides this time?

| The crowd reaction when Jack Tretton announced the used games policy was hilarious
It will be interesting to see how things go if these two consoles launch relatively close together. Fanboys such as Saddened obviously already had their minds made up long before a pricing structure was announced, but for casual gamers who were on the fence a difference of $100 in price will make a huge difference in their decision.
Not too bothered about the fee for online as I already have a PS Plus subscription and it is fantastic value for money. It's not expensive and I guess it was too big a revenue stream for Sony to ignore.
As far as the games are concerned, I was really impressed by quite a few different titles that were shown over all of the major conferences:
MGS 5 looked absolutely stunning
Titanfall looked like a lot of fun - good job it's coming out on the pc too
Watch Dogs still looks just as impressive as ever
The Division came out of nowhere and looks incredible - Ubisoft really do have some stunning titles in development
Destiny also looked like a game I will definitely be getting - it looked absolutely beautiful and the gameplay itself looked like a lot of fun.

It will, it certainly seems Sony have learned from their mistakes. It'll be interesting to see what Microsoft do about that. Are they just happy to assume their existing base will stay loyal, will they do a one month reduction (Of £80) for Christmas or a one off reduction of £80 for existing Live subscribers? Will they do the subscription model that has been rumoured?

That's an interesting thing about this upcoming generation's launch so far; Sony appear to have learnt from their mistakes of the PS3 launch, whereas Microsoft seem to be doing the opposite and adopting a few of them this time around.
I still haven't seen anything that convinces me a new generation is due, yet. I think that overall this could be the slowest/weakest generation transition yet seen.

I don't have a list but MGS is confirmed for both consoles, as is Final Fantasy. Watch Dogs is confirmed for PC, PS3, PS4, 360, Xbox One and WiiU.

| I saw a guy on gametrailers today talking about how he expects internet/cable tv companies to end up subsidising the cost of the console as part of an initiative to attract new customers into long term contracts, which is what Saddened has mentioned before now to a certain extent.
It seems like a pretty obvious thing to do imo, certainly for the XBone due to the required internet connection. It lends itself perfectly to internet providers looking to bring in new customers.
I think E3 probably came a little too soon for Microsoft in this regard, and maybe they didn't have the time to tie up any contracts with providers just yet. But I'd be very surprised if it never happens.
That still doesn't excuse the used game policy though, which I'm sure will put a lot of people off. In addition to this, not being able to modify the hdd of the console is another negative point. The hdd of the ps4 is confirmed to be removable and replaced with something bigger/better if you prefer.
