| Are we all mega excited now for the unveiling of the new Xbox? I think we are.
I was going to take the day off work for it, but if the PS4 reveal was anything to go by, the stream will be so poor it's impossible to watch live anyway.
I just hope it looks cool, get some nice lights on the thing.

| It doesn't start until about 6pm so I should make it home in time to catch it all.
Looking forward to what they have to offer this time around, and I think it has been confirmed that both FIFA 14 and CoD: Ghosts will be getting some screen time during the conference.

| Not seen much as i have just got home from work, but the live switching between tv, games, music and apps is mega impressive.
The bit about this gen having 15,000 servers for Xbox Live and the new one having 300,000 sounds implausible unless i heard it wrong.

| It's not the most aesthetically pleasing console I've ever seen, and that's putting it nicely
It looked absolutely massive! Really hope the ps4 looks better than that.
Not bothered about talking and waving my hands around to change outputs, I have no issues with using a tv remote.
Also, this isn't great news [urlhttp://www.computerandvideogames.com/407912/microsoft-confirms-pre-owned-fee-for-xbox-one/[/url

| I'm not impressed tbh. The console itself reminds me of an old top loading VHS player I used to have from the 80's :/ , and all they seemed to focus on was entertainment. Which to me is already covered with my ps3 having a blu ray and my pc. They made a big deal of being able to use a mobile device as a remote which again, isn't anything new and something that I do all the time with my iphone and pc when I'm watching stuff through my pc.
the new xbox live does look impressive, but it will come at a cost which is another thing that put's me off. with GTA5 coming to this generation and probably keeping me occupied for a while I don't think I'll be in any rush to be getting a next gen console.
It would appear that they have made deals with E.A to try and get exclusive content but it's all stuff that would usually be added extra's anyway.

| I like the design. Simple and minimalist.
Not sure if I'll buy it on launch, will depend on the price. Not too fussed about the various features and Kinect etc as I only really play the 360 simply for games and I don't play online, although having a blu ray player will be handy.

| Having looked at it closer, it's a very classy design. The thing is apparently silent in operation, which is an enormous improvement over the helicopter like running of the 360.
The reveal did focus on entertainment, but so it should. Xbox Live is an incredible facility and people now spend more time doing stuff other than games than they do playing games. Whenever I go on, everyone is watching TV, films etc. People go on about it not being free, but I'd pay double for Live, it's that good. 15,000 servers for 360 becomes 300,000 servers. Butter smooth.
The TV integration looks utterly fabulous. If they get Sky on board with that, I'd buy it just for that. And they will.
The instant switching and launching is great. Being able to go straight back into your game might sound like a minor thing, but in reality it'll be such a good experience that you'll soon wonder how we ever waited those two or thee minutes to fire up the console, log in, launch the game and get through all the splash screens and menus.
The controller looks like a masterpiece. It's just beautiful. Digital clicky button switches like the expensive tournament controllers, fantastic sticks and a beautiful fit in the hand (As it's based on the 360 controller which is great) and force feedback in the triggers. IN THE TRIGGERS!
The reveal shows all the good ideas Sony came up with, like the sharing features are already on Live. I don't think the status quo of Live>PSN is going to change any time soon. E3 is going to be good this year for once, plenty to see there.
The only worry I have is the price. That level of depth at launch has got to be expensive, especially with Kinnect no longer an optional extra? Are we looking at £500+?

The Jedi complaints department.
Another interesting claim revealed in the reveal today was that Kinnect can read your pulse. Now just how can it do that? Are we talking creepy airport scanner tech here or can it see your pulse moving in your skin movement?

| The PS4 seems to be a better gaming console. I don't use kinect and I use all the other multimedia features on the Xbox one on my PC or phone so for me the PS4 is the more appealing at this point.
A comparison of the specs is below:

What makes you think that the PS4 is a better gaming console? The reveals gave very little of that side of things away. Gaming these days is all about multi-player and Live will no doubt once again make PSN look like a child's toy made by Leapfrog. MS are investing an enormous amount in this again this time.
The technical specs are pretty irrelevant in this one I think. They are so closely matched that it's just not an issue. There was a far bigger technical shortfall in this generation and can you honestly tell the difference between the 360 and PS3? What is far more important is how easy it is for cost-conscious developers to code on the systems. MS had Sony well and truly beaten in this regard in this generation by all accounts, but I have no idea about the new ones.
I thought both reveals were very conservative. Neither really gave much away, but what they did show looked pretty well executed (Social aspects of PSN and the sharing button for Sony and the multimedia aspects of Xbox). MS didn't really touch much on the gaming side of things at all, certainly none of the social side of Live, which indicates that it's either aware it's got ground to make up or it just doesn't want to give it away.
I don't think there was anything from either side to make the fanboys (Which is what almost all of us on here are to varying degrees if we're honest about it) jump ship. E3 is going to be interesting and will show off the gaming side of both consoles more clearly. Price and who is out first will also be important. I can see Sony getting the PS4 out first (Learning lessons from last time) and also being cheaper. They don't have the hardware burden of Kinnect, so should really be £100 cheaper unless MS uses it's might to subsidise it to match Sony.

| They both look crap. Get your heads out of the ground and question why the need for a new console without much development.
Look at the step up from PS1 to PS2, then PS2 to 360/PS3. The development was huge but it's like gaming has hit a brick wall. I went to a conference a few weeks back where Sony were unveiling some of their PS4 games. I nearly fell asleep, the only bit I enjoyed was the free LBP keyring at the end. The games were mind numbingly repetitive; why does every single game involve a gun these days? Why are they always about blasting your way through from start to finish? I seen Infamous: Second Son, Knack (which looked OK compared to the rest) and a game that was some man with a girl following him, again, it looked crap. The only thing I would buy a new console for is the sports games; however, they haven't developed over the past four/five years and don't look like changing either. I think these will be a huge flop, phones and tablets are taking over and the likes of Sony should be developing a ridiculously powered gaming tablet, rather than a ridiculously powered console.

| As I understand it the PS4 is the better console from a developers point of view, which wasn't the case this gen. Sony have consulted developers of at all levels so they say) to try and make the PS4 better for the developers, inparticular indie developers. Apparantly, indie developers won't be able to self publish on the new Xbox.
Obviously we'll get to know more at E3 but looking at the opinons of some respected people in the games industry they seem to prefer the PS4 at this point.
Interstingly Sony's share price went up after the Xbox one reveal.

| I will reserve judgement on both consoles at this stage and probably buy the one that doesn't blow up in the first few weeks.
However having seen both presentations I think its quite sad that people are not really talking about what matters, the games.
Another Call Of Duty game is nice but hardly anything new and if I am going to pay £400 plus for a machine then I want it to do something interesting and new and I have no interest in sharing my achievements on the net although that must be great if your 15.
Hopefully Sony bring out 'The Last Guardian' at E3.

Exactly my view. I am very underwhelmed and have no interest in purchasing either of the consoles. The step up in performance looks to be minimal compared to every past generation, and third-parties will continue to release their games on 360 & PS3.
Current gen consoles reached a saturation point a long time ago so I can see why the manufacturers are desperate to get something new out now, but I don't see the sales figures for these new consoles being great.

I think that was a deliberate ploy. Too much time between now and release to keep the hype up, so start it slow to get people aware of the name then release a stream of hyped up games between now and release.

Is it not just that you're getting old? Obviously it's not going to be as pant wettingly exciting to see a new console as it was when you were 11. We've seen almost nothing in terms of games on either console as yet.

| I don't understand the 'there's minimal difference' argument. Theses consoles are x10s more powerful than the current gen. Imagine what some of the games are going to look like a couple of years down the line.

| I suspect the game Roddy mentioned regarding a 'guy with a girl following him' is The Last of Us. Should be out on PS3 next month and is shaping up to be a genuine GOTY contender. It looks brilliant and I can't wait to play it.
So if that game did absolutely nothing for you, perhaps you're just not into gaming anymore.

My thinking exactly. Hopefully the price will drop pretty steeply in the few months (hopefully) GTA5 will last me.

Genuine question; what makes you say that?
I know developers have started cramming multiplayer in left, right and centre, but that's more to try and combat the pre-owned market than driven by demand. I personally have very little interest in multiplayer (at least of the online variety), and my personal circle of gaming friends is a fairly even split, if not tipped in the favour of single-player gamers. My suspicion is that the online multiplayers just shout louder, rather than outnumber single-player gamers.
Also, on your point about telling the difference between 360 and PS3 versions: You're right, you barely can. That may well be because most of the multi-format games are primarily programmed for the 360, the technically weaker console. For pure aesthetics I've not seen anything on 360 come close to the likes of God of War 3, though. It will always be like this though, so unless whichever console is more powerful really go to town on first-party games the actual difference in performance-level capability will be marginalised.
