| Looks like that problem was just a case of replacing ddl files for some reason. Haven't tried FNV yet but it has allowed me to start a couple of the others

| My mum's laptop got attacked by the Smart HDD virus tonight. I've done the usual, Malwarebytes, virus scans etc. and all of the problems have gone. I've managed to get all of the files back from being hidden, got the start menus back to normal; however, when they all came back on, a Smart HDD icon was on my desktop. I searched my computer for stuff on it and found nothing, I've done scans using MSE and Malwarebytes, I can't find anything so I'm just wondering if the icon means nothing, or if it means there's still something lurking?

| Tip of the day:
Don't delete a fragmented partition and then do a file by file recovery of it.

| My ASUS CD/DVD drive is knackered (my fault).
Wondered how much ASUS/computer shop would charge to repair/replace (roughly), or if I should attempt myself and how hard it will be if so.

It is pretty easy to do, should be held in with one screw, is it IDE or SATA?

Trust me, you have a SATA drive, nice machine.
Option 1 - DIY, means taking the drive out yourself and replacing it, it is just one screw holding the drive in but I can't remember if you need to remove the bottom panel to do it, it isn't that hard to do, you'd need to order a drive and may need to swap the bezel to make it fit.
Option 2 - Take it to a repair shop, should cost no more than the cost of the drive plus half an hours labour.
Option 3 - Buy an external USB jobbie.

Found this pretty cool docking station for my macbook pro yesterday whilst reading an old mac life magazine in work; hengedocks.com/ .. Perfect for the things I need it for as well, pretty surprised they actually existed to be fair.
Anyone else got anything similar?

| Just got an iPhone 4S and having a weird but very annoying problem with my car's built in hands free. For some reason, although the phone is set to sort and display contacts first name, last name, my Sony Ford system is displaying them in reverse. After much googling I'm finding plenty with the same problem but no cure, I've already tried downloading and installing the latest Ford update. Has anyone come across this and have a solution?

| A bit of a mobile dev question.
I'm a windows coder and looking to write an app. I was thinking of doing something RL related but there's (seemingly) a lack of APIs out there to provide sporting info. I've got a windows mobile and the SDKs but a lack of data to tap into.
Has anyone written an RL app for other mobile platforms? If there's anyone who has had any experience with this, PM me or reply on this thread, I'll keep looking for a few weeks.
If anyone from the RLFans admin team know any contact details or want to put together a webservice for developers to tap into I'd be more than willing to help test/develop the API.
Phill

| A bit of a weird one for me. I have just bought the Dr Feelgood box set that contains a DVD. When I tried to play this on the DVD player it wouldn't work properly. The menu came up but when I selected a gig or a track it stayed on the menu and seemed to get stuck in a 'Norman Collier'-type loop. One track on the whole DVD seemed to play properly. I returned it to Amazon and they sent another. This has the exact same problem. This raised my suspicions so I tried it in another DVD player and it worked fine. It also works in my PC and my laptop, just not on the Samsung DVD/HDD player/recorder we have set up to the main TV.
I've tried numerous other DVDs in the player and they all work fine. I'm baffled. The actal DVD says on it 'Region 0, NTSC/DVD5'. Anyone got any suggestions?

Do you have a proxy enabled? The only time I've seen this was when I was using a Canadian proxy and accessing Google.co.uk

| mickey region 0 refers to it being region free. If you search the net there will be a way of hacking your dvd firmware to region free. Its usually a straightfoward code entry via the remote. You should then be able to play any dvd region and can eg play US region 1 dvds and yr region 0 should work fine

Cheers Phil. I'll have a look round but I thought Region 0 meant any DVD player could play it?

It does.
It could be that the player you are using has old firmware that can't handle the menus of the DVD.

bit.ly/IYyNHG Belkin are about the best, there are cheaper one but they are usually poor.
I prefer the ones that go in the headphone socket, you can use them with anything, the dedicated iPod ones
can be a pain when Apple change the connector spec.

Has anyone any idea why when I try to load certain websites it causes my internet to crash? I can then reset the modem and router and everything works fine. There are two sites in particular I use everyday that causes the problem, these are www.blackpoolfc.co.uk/page/Home and www.sthelensstar.co.uk/ I can load the homepage it's when I try to start to use different pages that the problems arise.
I tried to load the sites on Mozilla Firefox yesterday and they worked properly so I'm thinking it may be a problem within Chrome which I prefer to use.
Any help appreciated.

| I have 2 partitions on my pc, A windows 7 64 bit and 32 bit, Whilst running the 64 bit I'm trying to format the D: drive which is where the 32 bit system is installed because I want to free up that disk and get rid of the 32 bit partition. I run CMD as administrator ask to Format D: and press Y at the prompt, then get a message saying system partition can not be formatted. is there some other tool I can use to format the partition?

Sounds like you have a problem there...
Here's what I would do -
Image the 64bit version to DVD(s) use Ghost or www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage
Format the whole disk
Reload from the image
If you don't know what you are doing you could have to re-install Windows from scratch so back up the [delporn collection[/del important stuff.

| My laptop is playing up. Whenever I'm using a program the screen flickers as if I've clicked the task bar at the bottom and deselects the program as the current window. So when I'm typing this, I get about four or five words in before the cursor disappears and I have to click on the screen again to select it.
Mega annoying in Word when trying to type something. Four or five words, click on screen, four or five words, click on screen etc.
