Politics of envy
No matter how many times you may shout it, it still doesn't make it true.
As has often been proven whenever you've resorted to your stock rhetoric.
You've already attempted to tak the pi[iss[/i out of Harry Smith - you know, the OAP (your term) who stood up at the Labour conference to defend the NHS.
Now ask yourself, without the massive investment in Social Security: A catch-all term that means exactly what it says. Where do you think you would be now?
I'm older than you but I was born in Hedon Road Maternity Hospital - a facility that would never have existed had it not been for the instroduction of the NHS 4 years prior to my birth. My mother would have given birth at home, not with a qualified midwife present but with "Flo from down the street" at best. At six months od age, the family dog bit me in the eye, I spent 3 months in Hull Children's Hospital, while they grafted my left eyeball to the lower lid. At four years of age, I was back in the Children's Hospital for a tonsillectomy.
None of the above would've happened without a Socialist government in charge.
I enjoyed a state-funded nursery facility, so my mother could go out to work. We lived in a Council House on Longhill Estate, alongside others who owned shops, managed shops and held what would now be described as middle-management positions. Some of our neighbours ownded cars but they only ever used them on weekends, preferring either to cycle to work, or take a municipally-provided bus.
Before you EVER try dissing "socialism", just ask yourself, what healthcare and education your parents would have afforded you (assuming you survived to full-term), without the state picking up a major portion of that tab?

What did the tories have to offer following the end of WW2?
This "modern world" was built on the back of a socialist agenda. It was Labour who gave us the NHS, who bought swathes of previous countryside to build estates like Longhill, Bilton Grange, Greatfield etc. Labour who also engaged in a school building programme and introduced a "Comprehensive" education system that made sure that if you didn't make the first cut at age 11, there were still the opportunities to further your education, instead of being consigned to a school that provided nothing more than factory-fodder.
I'll ask you again: could your parents have funded your birth and education?
I've told you where I lived in Hull, I was schooled at: Villa Place (nursery, infants & Junior), the Hull Grammar School and David Lister.
What's your background Martin?

Yes, my parents could, and did, fund my birth and education. My background is not of your concern, as I say, no point arguing about it, you have your opinion and I have mine. I am fed up of paying for worthless people sprouting worthless future generations.

Your parents PAID for your birth AND your education ?
And your healthcare since - they paid for that too, and you pay for your healthcare now including your GP, you ask him for a bill every time you go and see him ?
And in this make believe world of unbridled wealth of yours, IF you had any offspring, you'd be able to fund them from conception through to a university education so that they could in turn pay for everything themselves, assuming that they would want to follow such a ridiculous dogmatic approach to life ?
If any of the above were true (I don't believe you) then the most amusing part is that you are funding everything in your life from cradle to grave whilst at the same time paying for the state to do the same job via taxation, in short, you are paying for everything twice - a fool and his money and all that.

Awww... don't worry, when you get to big school (the one where you don't have to wear shorts) your brain cells tend to develop, I hope when you go there yours will so that we can all look forward to some rational, sensible comments in your posts. By the way what was the cost to your parents to fund your birth? I'd suggest your parents demand a refund.

You'd have been born somewhere else. Hope this helps.
How on earth do you know that you would have never been treated but for the NHS?
Is education the exclusive preserve of socialist thinking? You seem confused on this one.

If socialism is so great, why do we have food banks & so many children in poverty in the UK? Why are we having all this austerity? I mean we had a socialist government between 1997 & 2010?
The socialist government post WW2 only lasted one term & a bit before it was booted out. Bizarre

Likewise, the party politics part of politics is by far the most ridiculous and unworkable mess of a system in which to run a country - if you ran a business in the same manner then you wouldn't have a business in a very short measure of time, hence the reason why no-one in power ever takes a long look at where we are and what we need, no Prime Minister ever decided that his role should be one of Chairperson of UK PLC and made decisions based on what was best for the PLC rather than what his mates were telling him to say.
It does offer some amusement on both sides of the Atlantic though when the flag wavers of each party start to make huge sweeping generalisations under the assumption that you can't be a little bit of each party, or none at all.

Moreso when people simply vote for the colour of the party flag and often because their parents told them to.
Personally and due to the current configuration of "the system" I vote for the bloke who does a good job, who works hard in the constituency and keeps in touch with constituents as to his whereabouts each day, and who can be contacted via a range of methods which WILL get a reply - hence the bloke who is our current sitting MP, I don't give a damn about his party or his Party's proposals because frankly they are a bag of poop and will never get into a position where they can enact them OR that I expect any party follow any manifesto to the letter once they are in power, they don't, they simply change their tune and look to blame someone else (the Tory party supporting Browns proposals to bail out the banks and then blaming Brown for the whole worlds financial mess a few months after getting into power for just one of many examples).

Not really. Everyone has a political opinion, but that doesn't necessarily align along traditional party or even Right/Left boundaries.

The last Socialist government in this country ended with Thatcher's victory in 1979. Neither the Blair nor Brown administrations were Socialist in any meaningful sense of the word.
And the number of food banks in the UK has grown enormously since the current government came to power, so that's a really poor example to use.

Yes it is. In the same way as when you get ill or need the police or drive on the roads or aren't killed by buildings collapsing around you or unsafe working practices, I, along with everyone else, has paid for that.
It's called civilised society.
