| Quote ="Sal Paradise"I completely agree re. the government's handling of this - it has been very poor.
Are you saying that our bodies don't deteriorate with age - that is just a ridiculous notion? If you look at those that got the letter a big chunk fell into the categories that I outlined.
There will always be a trade off - relax the lockdown and infections will increase but you cannot lock the country down forever - Germany has seen infections grow.
Perhaps if we all took a bit more ownership of our own behaviour and [ustayed alert[/u it is our best chance of not contracting the virus. If we don't within 6 feet of anyone outside of our household for an extended period then our chances of infection will be significantly reduced - just a thought?'"
Yes, if we all just "Stay Alert" that will help.
All news outlets reporting a large increase in road traffic and public transport traffic etc this morning.
Wonder if they remembered to wear face masks as per the briefing some 20hours later by the government.
Oh oh, that was a bit late wasnt it
Maybe they should have released all the details before urging everyone to get back to work?

Congratulations you have encapsulated government strategy in one.
Give out confusing and contradictory messages Bojo changes come into play Monday, Raab changes come into play Wednesday.
Last week don’t wear masks, This week wear masks in enclosed spaces.
Meanwhile when it all goes wrong th eTories will be able to say that it was because the public did not stay alert, did not follow the advice. It is all their fault.
Then the SUN will have pictures of idiots getting drunk on the beaches and in the parks and the Tories will come out of it smelling of roses saying.
Nothing to do with us it was all the public’s fault.

Correct
Much easier to come out with a 3 or 4 word "slogan" and blame everyone else.

| Johnson and his cabinet are deliberately giving out mixed messages, loose rules, contradictory advice, and confusing slogans in the hope that the onus (and more importantly, the blame) can be shifted from the government to the public. Give it a week and the tabloids will be running a daily shaming feature of people meeting in parks and city centres called 'the lockdown breakers'. The comments sections will be filled with "they didn't stay alert" comments.
It's the classic pupil/teacher exchange -
Pupil - "My friend told me to do it"
Teacher - "If your friend told you to jump in front of a truck, would you?"

It's already happening
Hes telling us now that it's down to the public to use common sense. Its up to us to "stay alert"!
You could almost hear the deflection in his tone that if anything goes wrong it's out fault.

| More importantly, where are people supposed to get a supply of masks from, which are now required for enclosed spaces ??
Masks will be harder to get hold of than toilet rolls and pasta were a few weeks ago and remebering that some idiots will be stock piling the bloody things, there could be serious consequances for some of the people / services that really need them.

You lefties really do want the state to control your lives - are you incapable of staying staff all by yourself - you should be embarrassed, I would be. It would be funny if it weren't so tragic. Maybe the slogan should be "Grow up and Grow some"

Just have a look on Amazon you can buy 50 for £21 - suggest you use a bit of initiative or do you want the state to sort that for you - perhaps they can also tell you how to wear them and for how long!! You lot really are a joke

| Quote ="wrencat1873"You do seem to be ignoring the fact that teachers themselves dont feel comfortable teaching kids, who may or may not be carrying the virus and that's before we get to the logistics of getting the kids to school, parents working but, with no childcare (either official or through family members).
Assuming that there can be a restart and on the basis that class sizes have to shrink to make allowance for social distancing, maybe the "start up" could be kids going in every other week, which, although a reduction in teaching, this could be supplemented with some home tutoring and "on line" lessons.
It doesn't help that, after such a long period of Tory rule, class sizes have grown and most classes are "bulging" with pupils.
Within the private education system, I'm sure that the start up will be simpler and quicker to get going but, perhaps we shouldn't go there
'"
I ask you once again - can we realistically start education without a vaccine - especially as teachers are scared of actually teaching!!
Given the teachers unions don't want them to teach outside of the school - no Zoom going on here!! and have suggested they shouldn't have to mark work despite getting full pay how does you bi weekly attending school actually work?
Increasing population gives increased class sizes - given the make up of the population increase
One of the many benefits of doing without to send your kids to private school - you get a different level of commitment from those taking your money

Once again, you spectacularly miss the point.
Personally, I've been around long enough to look after myself, thanks but, we already have idiots who dont keep their 2 metres or have any respect for social distancing etc and if EVERYONE is required to wear a face mask / cover their face in certain public spaces, where are the masks going to come from.
Should I bulk buy as many as I can, like you and your ilk probably did with the toilet rolls etc

I actually thought the traffic was less - seldom use public transport so I can't comment. Was it compulsory to wear masks - any different from the previous week. Again are the population incapable of behaving normally without the Government holding their hand?

The two metres also has another element doesn't it? Time spent in contact!!
There will never be a case where we all have masks - I would suggest it is you that is missing the point - the benefits are so infinitesimal that its simply a confidence giver for those who simply don't have the bravery to live a normal life.

Given that most of the morons who don't follow the rules are young who mostly vote Labour I suggest your views are without either substance or validity.
I suppose the Tory voters like to have some input into their life - they don't need the control of the state like you lefties.

I do not feel that I have any difficulties sin knowing what I need to do.
My concerns are for those who do not have the same level,of control over their lives.
The security guards who are most at risk, the care home staff who have really limited PPE but still go to work, the NHS workers who go to work and put themselves at risk to help people like you, the insecurely employed who have no choice, the worker s who have to use public transport and put themselves at risk.
You Tories are so emotionally dead that you find it impossible to think about your fellow man. Maybe your slogan should be , “so what if you die. I want my quality of life”

The advice was for face coverings not masks.
Below is from strategy paper released today.
"Face-coverings
As more people return to work, there will be more movement outside people's immediate household. This increased mobility means the Government is now advising that people should aim to wear a face-covering in enclosed spaces where social distancing is not always possible and they come into contact with others that they do not normally meet, for example on public transport or in some shops. Homemade cloth face-coverings can help reduce the risk of transmission in some circumstances. Face-coverings are not intended to help the wearer, but to protect against inadvertent transmission of the disease to others if you have it asymptomatically.
A face covering is not the same as a facemask such as the surgical masks or respirators used as part of personal protective equipment by healthcare and other workers. These supplies must continue to be reserved for those who need it. Face-coverings should not be used by children under the age of two, or those who may find it difficult to manage them correctly, for example primary age children unassisted, or those with respiratory conditions. It is important to use face- coverings properly and wash your hands before putting them on and taking them off."

| Sunday you have 12 hours to return to work but not be public transport. Monday no we meant Wednesday but still try to walk or cycle. Sunday anybody flying into U.K. other than from Eire must isolate for 14 days. Monday extended to suddenly include by ferry, tunnel with the exception of coming from France which is now exempt. Sunday it was construction and manufacturing but by Monday they added food production and science facilities. Sunday golf yes but in two’s only and then with an existing member from your household but by Monday it can be from another house but subject to social distancing. I could give more examples by you right wing are so knowledgeable that you knew what he meant on Sunday.
I like the belief that a company is going to say no don’t come to work because you can’t find child care.
