| I can say first hand that the Conservative leaflets concentrated on Brexit and not much else. I hope that means that some are finally realising that they were lied to and are still to feel any benefits.

If you read the Governor of the Bank of England's recent assessment of UK's prospects of growth, it points quite sharply to the damning effects of Brexit.
Just as the rest of Europe will struggle with energy costs and supply issues, he says that due to leaving the EU and the huge drop in the value of the £, the UK will
have a longer and deeper recession.
No longer is he talking about "if" there will be one but only about it's magnitude.
Add to this the utter lack of strategy form the current government, who are too busy with self preservation and it looks like we may be in for a rough ride and that's before you consider the size of the national debt and rising interest rates which make that debt harder to manage.
Also, it seems like BJ are very appropriate initials for our PM.

| Whilst there are lots of examples of areas where brexit is bad for us.
However for the sake of balance I feel that I should mention one of the benefits of brexit.
When you go to Europe on holiday you now have to have your passport stamped on entry and exit. This means that you can have passports full of stamps showing h the he countries you have visited . A nice way of saving memories of travelling .
Assuming that you can afford to travel and get through Dover

The exchange rate is a red herring - the pound vs euro is roughly in line with where it was at the time of exit - it is in fact strengthening. It looks like the Eu is very weak against both the £ and US$
I would agree about the lack of strategy though

But the GBP/USD rate is the much more important one and that has absolutely tanked since the referendum - and was already lower than it would have been due to the uncertainty leading up to it.

The rate before the results was about €1.31 to the pound but when the results came at it dropped and never returned to anything like this rate since. It is increasing because the Bank of England has indicated that they may increase the interest rate by 0.5% at the next review.

Both the £ and the Euro have dropped significantly against the USD in recent times and based on historical levels, the £ is not doing so great either. Although the £ has gained some ground from a few years ago, when it was worth just over 1 Euro. If you go back 10 years or so, the Pound would buy you 1.45 Euros (compared to just under 1.20 at present.
Versus the dollar, we have gone rom $1.70 down to around $1.20, having never recovered its value since Brexit - granted there have been one or two "rallies" in the value but, this is the main reason for the cost of imports getting more and more expansive, with many commodities being purchased in US dollars.
Since the referendum the Pound and Euro have followed a similar path.
It's the red tape and bureaucracy that have been the worst problem.

I no what I’m talking about unlike you.
Company I work for import scrap magnesium and magnesium ore and export machined magnesium strip.
Before Brexit we didn’t have no checks when sending to are customers in france and Italy. Now they want all these checks done on the paperwork and inspections. When we bring in scrap form Turkey and Bulgaria by truck we don’t have to do these checks it just comes in. We get the haulier you put it into computer when it arrive and it’s done. They are choosing to do all them checks to teach us a lesson!
The economy is a global issue because of pandemic too. Or do you think only England had covid?

| I will assume you are not the usual subject and despite the questionable education I would point out that as part of the ready made deal signed by de Pfeffel it made us a third party country. This is what we wanted therefore all the previous benefits of free movement of goods and people ended. We are now treated as we were requested to be which requires lots of paperwork and passport checks which is exactly the same as the EU require for all countries.
The problem your business is suffering from is not the fault of anyone but de Pfeffel who was only interested in getting Brexit done at any cost and you are now incurring those costs.
What you are getting unsurprisingly confused by is that goods coming into the U.K. are not checked because we don’t have the necessary infrastructure and the government did not want to appear to be blocking imports and making Brexit look bad. This does of course leave the U.K. open to smuggling but eventually it will need to be closed and you will find the same problems both ways.

It's an interesting point about how much longer the UK can go on with this almost 'open borders' policy. The lunatic minority who have seized power in this country are constantly frothing at the mouth over a handful of people coming across in dingies but don't seem to care about the tens of thousands of uninspected lorries entering the country every day.

Actually the deal isn't to blame for customs entries they are, in fact, a direct consequence of Brexit full stop. You would have them even if we were in the EEA. When we were members of the EU we had to complete customs clearances on cargo from Switzerland or Norway.
This was pointed out by the head of HMRC before the referendum but was dismissed as project fear.
The fact we are allowing anything and everything in without checking is as you point out because the government have made a complete b0ll0ck5 of it. They've tried (with some success clearly) to dress it up as a Brexit benefit but it actually goes against "taking back control". In fact if you wanted to smuggle something in it would be a piece of p155 - we've completely given up all control.

This country is a wash with class A drugs - this was case when we were in the EU - so what does that say about the quality of checks at our ports. This isn't a Brexit issue and it never was.

No it's completely different and is down to Brexit. All cargo from outside the same customs territory has to have a customs declaration entered onto the system upon arrival. Whether it's physically checked or not isn't the point border force have a declaration of what the cargo is and any revenues due of everything entering our customs territory from outside. This means customs/port health/trading standards have the chance to inspect cargo if they wanted. As is still the case should you bring cargo in by air or sea etc. your cargo isn't released until a customs declaration has been made.
After Brexit all cargo entering the UK is now from a different customs territory, however, because we haven't got our ducks in a row (even now years after leaving) the requirement for road/rail freight via ferry ports and the tunnel is to enter the customs declaration within 24 hours of arrival not at the point of entry. We've created a situation where the significant majority of imports from outside our customs territory can be brought in and delivered before we've even declared to border force what it is and where it's from and somehow that's taking back control. We live in strange times.

But wasn't Brexit all about "securing our borders"
Instead now we've just flung them entirely open, despite the fact there's supposed to be a hard border there.
