That cant be right. There are more people in work in the UK at the moment than ever before, although this doesn't take account of the poor folk that may have 2 or 3 jobs, just to try and cover their cost of living or, in your world, to pay for fags, booze and a gambling habit.

Aye, it's been utopia for the last few years.

Lib Dems were in charge, along with the conservatives, from 2010-2015. I voted for them in 2010. I never will again because of the austerity they forced on the poorest and most vulnerable over this time.
