It doesn’t seem to be a positive vote - nobody can straight-facedly say anything positive about him, but it doesn’t [ujust[/u seem to be a negative pooping in the pool or anti-Labour thing, either.
I’m clearly massively out of touch. I’ve tried - I’ve watched lots of Jeff Taylor videos on YouTube. I don’t want to just dismiss it as a national emotional and intellectual meltdown because that feels lazy. But I can’t come up with anything better. maybe it is like that dress from a few years ago that was blue and black, or white and gold. Maybe some people see Boris Johnson as talented, interesting and wise, and it is just another state of perception. But then, why does nobody ever say it?
It is almost funny.'"
Herein lies the issue that Labour have - the public are stupid - no wonder the left is such a shambles.
It started with Brexit i.e. we need keep voting until the public vote the we want them too because we are so much more intelligent and know what's best. Labour just sneer at everyone as if they are all idiots.
Whilst ever your look down at ordinary people in this way the greater the gap will become - Boris said he would honour the vote on Brexit and he did - you might not like the deal but we are no longer in the EU - that is tangible - all the virtue signalling and wokeness that the left put out is simply bonkers - most people aren't bothered. They believe their are two genders not a hundred etc.

Now you are projecting something weird about some establishment news site?

That I get. I’m not in denial about Labour’s failings. The social democratic-socialist coalition has cracked and the societal concerns of both wings are of limited interest to lots of voters.
The Tories have dealt with the threat from their right from UKIP and Farage by consuming it whole, while holding on to the centre right (for now).
The broad trends are easy to see. But then you got the absurdism of Johnson as Prime Minister.

I have no recollection of "quoting" Politico on here but I suppose if you say so I may have linked to something.
I'm not entirely sure what point you're making though. And neither, I suspect, do you.

The bloke has no idea about the differences between local and national government. He is pointing out police and hospital issues. Those decisions are not made at local level. The Tories have been in power for 11 years and presumably he's voted for them "for change"! The theory always trotted out is "Labour don't understand the working class". With blokes like him in the video is it any wonder? Do you understand him?

It's like the sinking ship with three survivor's, one of whom is Boris Johnson, the other a normal bloke and the 3rd one an immigrant. Johnson looks at the available supplies, 30 hard tack biscuits and 5 bottles of water. Johnson takes 25 biscuits and 3 bottles of water and tells the normal bloke to get the rest before the immigrant gets them.
Think Cummings, when he was running the show understood the mentality and to a certain extent, so does Johnson.
Tories are bullet proof for a while yet.

Labour need all the votes they can get at the moment. I'm guessing the guy has been a Labour voter all his life but now he can "think for himself" he votes Tory. The same Tories who have been in power for the last 11 years and are actually responsible for his grievances.

I'd say it was a problem whoever he's voting for if he doesn't actually understand what he's voting for. It's only coming to light now because the Brexit vote has put these 'left-behind' areas in the spotlight.
I didn't vote Labour, myself, this time so your Labour/Tory line of questioning is misplaced.

| What did Labour expect putting a remainer from London who was ousted at the last election as their candidate in a seat that voted 70% leave?
I have never voted Tory, and I likely never will but Starmer and his team haven't got a clue. They need to pay more attention to what the the Labour councils in the North west and Greater Manchester in particular are doing, because they're actually increasing their share of the vote.

'" A bit of a stretch to say the candidate was "from London" when they've lived in the north east for 30 years.
Anyway onto the next by election. I gifted my second preference to the Labour candidate for W Yorkshire mayor, the second time i've cast a vote for that party. They ultimately won triggering a by election in Batley and Spen. That I think would be closer to call than Hartlepool - Labour just won more votes there in the local elections and 17% of votes went for Lib Dems and Greens that they can potentially seek to squeeze.

He was parachuted in because he was the leadership's choice, he wasn't chosen in a local selection process.

Labour are very strong in Manchester and Liverpool - Burnham is a very good communicator who comes across as a very genuine guy who really cares - a bit like Street in the Midlands - the complete opposite to Boris.

This is a good article about Labour in Hartlepool.
It is also interesting that a lot of left wing Labour supporters could not stomach voting Labour.
His leaflet on St George’s day with nothing on it other than I am the candidate and with a St. George’s flag covering the other half did not help him either.
Loads of people wanted rid of the traditional politicians completely.
