Oh no, it ain't nice. It ain't fun. But you're not the only individual who has been unemployed – you just happen to behave in a whinging, whining, pathetic, everybody-owes-me-a-living manner, while others actually try.

| There are 3 fundamental issues with the economy imo.
1. It's too easy to get social welfare and we pay out too much. This dwarfs EVERYTHING else. If we cut this significantly we could build the best schools/roads/hospitals etc in the world.
2. The banks needs splitting up into retail banks, backed by the government (and therefore effectively us the taxpayers of the UK), limited to low risk activities, and investment banks backed by no-one, who should be allowed to please themselves.
3. Socialist dinosaurs need to wake up and smell the coffee. The age of "class struggle" (whatever that was) is over. We are competing in a global market and need to work together to ensure that we can do so.

| Quote ="Mintball"Yet something else that you don't understand.
Why not everyone 'volunteer' to become "a wage slave" – then there'll be nobody in work to pay for them to take that magnificently principled decision.
I doubt anyone here has a problem with his doing voluntary work (if he does). The problem people here have is – based on his own posts (and there have been many) – that he won't apply for paid jobs, sees most paid work as beneath him, and is perfectly happy to expect that those of us who [ido[/i work pay for his upkeep.
He's a fine example, in other words, of the lumpen proletariat. Perhaps you should read Marx on that subject so that you actually have a clue about classical left political theory on the matter.'"
Personally I've always thought Marx's attack on the 'lumpen' rather hypocritical, seeing as he himself 'leeched' off the working class, taking hand outs from Engels who himself got the money from his rich factory owning father!

I think you'll find that your the one doing the whining in this thread. I'm just explaining how it is for me whilst you try your very best to provoke me into responding with god knows what because you seem to have some sort of a vendetta against me.
I look forward to the debate that you might have with LeighGionaire with regards to the Marx’s stuff because you have great opinions on that. But this debate between me and you is over until you can be more mature about it.

Your point re the importance of oil is well taken. It is indeed the lubricant (pun intended) of economics. Never underestimate human ingenuity, however. If we put our minds to it, 95% of oil use could be avoided now. Sure it is less efficient, but it's entirely possible.

| I’ve swigged a bottle of Dom Pérignon Champaign whilst on the dole. A drink that is normally associated with those who have successful working lives. It was a friends drink mind and he decided to share with me because we was celebrating what was a good day that day.
Just because I sometimes indulge in binge drinking, it doesn’t mean that I don’t want a job. In fact because of the experiences that I’ve had with drinking I want a job more than ever because that will afford me better and more drinks.
However you’ll be pleased to know that I have curved my drinking habits down this year so I can focus more on doing something different with my life. I think using the money for membership at a decent gym is another factor why I cut down on booze as well.
I’m now waiting for the outrage that people on the dole should lose weight by getting chased by cars on motorways or as already suggested in this thread - starve because they don’t have a job. All I can say to that is I get given what I’m entitled to and I manage that money well.
Finally I just want to thank those who have sympathise with my situation on here. I will be taking on Sally’s advice of ignoring the forum bullies on this thread from now on as I want to try and add more sides to the unemployment debate rather than have it all focused on my own struggles.

Does anyone know Damo personally outside of Sin Bin and RL Fans? I'm only curious because you only know what he tells you. I'm not for one minute suggesting Damo is an outright liar but sometimes what people say on a public forum and what they do in real life are two different things. And as for his drinking binges, I know Damo has parents, my parents used to help me out when I was young and on the dole, maybe they gift him money too??
He has also said he has a disability - Aspergers - maybe those of you who are quick to have a go at him learn something about his condition instead and try to understand how the world is for him and why he posts some of the things he does.
And to Damo, well done on your voluntary work, it will give you experience will look good on on your CV, get you references and improve your chances of work. Good Luck to you.

| Damo, imo you can do whatever you want. I have absolutely no problems with you whatsoever.
In general though, I would cut benefits massively.
If you want to stay unemployed and get zero money, then good luck to you. HOWEVER, I don't see why taxpayers (and it IS taxpayers, not "The Government"icon_wink.gif, should hand out money to you, if you do not work.

And once all the vacancies are filled what would you do with those without work? Leave them to starve? We are in the midst of the worst economic climate in living memory, even those who really want to work can't find jobs, never mind the feckless.

I am all for a safety net, but when that's abused, that's the key.
There are currently 500,000 jobs that are not filled in the UK.
I would say we have some way to go before your scenario wouldn't you?

Mmm and how many vacancies are there unfilled for any great length of time? Even in the good times there are always a certain amount of vacancies and a natural part of the jobs market, there has to be to make it work.
There are 2.68 million people unemployed that is over 2 million without work on your figures, what would you cut for them? Even if there is 50% feckless and workshy that still leaves a million who want to work but can't.
