I think he wants a discussion about it.
Perhaps you could manage a reasoned contribution – and not just a [iDaily Mail[/i link.

Quote ="Pumpetypump"Have you noticed the nature of other national anthems? They generally glory in the diversity and richness of the country in question. Compare that with ours which is entirely about one woman and doesn't mention anything at all about the actual UK.
God save our gracious Queen,
Long live our noble Queen,
God save the Queen:
Send her victorious,
Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over us:
God save the Queen.
O Lord, our God, arise,
Scatter her enemies,
And make them fall.
Confound their politics,
Frustrate their knavish tricks,
On Thee our hopes we fix,
God save us all.
Thy choicest gifts in store,
On her be pleased to pour;
Long may she reign:
May she defend our laws,
And ever give us cause
To sing with heart and voice
God save the Queen.
Now I personally feel uncomfortable, and frankly a bit daft, singing about one woman when what I want to do is sing about the multitude of aspects of the UK I love. I started a facebook page yesterday to try and gauge if anyone else gives a toss or is it just me?

I think you'll find it's about way more than one woman, for a start, it was appeared in a published article in 1744.

Indeed, I recall our old music books at primary school referring to "the King."

I picked out the commonly used version of the national anthem.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God_Save_the_Queen
I think we could indulge in a spot of finding hidden depths in a national anthem which doesn't really have any, but the long and the short of it is that it does not suitably reflect the country. The Australian national anthem tells everyone who cares to listen that its land abounds in natures gift's. Ours essentially says, "I doff my cap to the king/queen. I do hope they don't smite us".
I should also say that this isn't about being republican. I don't think that being a monarchist and finding our anthem absurd are mutually exclusive.

| It's hardly "about one woman", is it, though? Isn't the symbolism bleedin' obvious? The thing is about the Head of State, as such, and thus is really about the country of which she is just the incumbent monarch. "The king is dead! Long live the king!" kind of thing.
The personal identity of the monarch is irrelevant for this purpose. If you need proof to get your head around this, consider this; if Brenda retired tomorrow, would anyone ever sing an anthem to her again? And why do you think that would be, then?
There are so many versions and verses, for all sorts of historical reasons, that there is no official full version but it doesn't matter since for all intents and purposes verse 1 is the only one mostly ever sung.
Personally I reckon they should bring back the following as verse 2, which I put on a par with the verses contributed by Johnny Rotten:
[iFrom France and Pretender
Great Britain defend her,
Foes let them fall;
From foreign slavery,
Priests and their knavery,
And Popish Reverie,
God save us all.[/i
As in my comments before, though I'm pretty sure that the supplicants were asking god to defend the realm, not just the queen. As if she alone survived it wouldn't be an exercise with much point.

Oh come on. Do you feel that Brenda rules over you, like she could have your head chopped off or something? We are a constitutional monarchy and the monarch is the head of state. Most of the country (sadly) believe in god, i don't but see no harm in the title, any more than i see anything wrong in using a phrase such as "Thank God for beer". Belief in a deity is not necessary for you to get my point.
I wouldn't mind the song being replaced by something the people as a whole preferred, if it were possible to find out what that actually was, but for now see no problem at all with a patriotic song in a constitutional monarchy referring to the monarch, and it is a rousing tune, sung to good effect on many occasions so I reckon thousands must reckon that by and large it does the job. There's no need to take it so literally, and it's a mistake to do so.
Plus if you are fundamentally opposed to the monarchy, you can always sing sing "team" instead of "queen"

Jerusalem mentions "England's green and pleasant land", don't think the rest of the country would be too happy. Land of Hope and Glory, I think I've only ever heard the chorus and most others would probably say that.

Meh. It was written at a time when "England" was often used to describe all of GB. In the same way Americans often say "England" when they actually refer to the whole UK. We sing it at sporting events. The Grand Final etc it was also sung at GB matches.

| Performed by Parliament, I'll nominate this.
Ooh ahh yeah, you're so sweet
Ooh ahh yeah, you're so sweet
The goose that laid the golden egg
Was an extraordinary goose
(Real, real goose)
Now, just imagine a goose laying a golden egg
Why it's a dream come true
(Real, real goose)
Oh, but you don't lay no golden egg
But you're a golden goose to me
Ooh ahh yeah, you're so sweet
Now, I'm as happy as a monkey with a peanut machine
Since I found you
(I found you)
Just imagine a monkey with a peanut machine
It's a dream come true
(Dream come true)
Oh but I don't need no nut machine
Because I'm nuts all over you
Ooh ahh yeah, you're so sweet
Hey babe, yeah, babe
You're my goose that laid the golden eggs, babe
You're my peanut machine, hey babe
Happy as a mole with eagle eyes
Yeah, since I found you
(I found you)
Can you imagine a mole with eagle eyes
It's a dream come true, babe
(Dream come true)
I'm feelin' all right and I'm feelin' all right, babe
Hey hey, I want to talk about it
Wanna step right here in the pocket, babe
Lord, make me want to sing about it
Hey, babe, whoo, babe
You're my monkey peanut machine, babe
Eagle eye, hey goose that laid the golden eggs
(Ooh ahh yeah, you're so sweet)
Laid the golden eggs, babe, yeah
(Ooh ahh yeah, you're so sweet)
Ooh ahh yeah, you're so sweet
Ooh ahh yeah, you're so sweet
Ooh ahh yeah, you're so sweet
Ooh ahh yeah, you're so sweet
Ooh ahh yeah, you're so sweet
Ooh ahh yeah, you're so sweet
Ooh ahh yeah, you're so sweet
Ooh ahh yeah, you're so sweet
Ooh ahh yeah, you're so sweet
Ooh ahh yeah, you're so sweet
Ooh ahh yeah, you're so sweet
Ooh ahh yeah, you're so sweet
Ooh ahh yeah, you're so sweet
Ooh ahh yeah, you're so sweet
Ooh ahh yeah, you're so sweet
You're my goose, baby
What's good for the goose is good to the gander, baby
Funky, love machine, baby
Eagle eyes, lay the golden eggs, babe
Lay the golden eggs, babe
Feeling so proud, so proud, so proud
Hey, can't you tell by the way I walk
Tell by the way I talk, baby
Come on baby make me feel so good, oh baby, yeah
Ooh, ahh, yeah you're so sweet, oh babe
Oh babe, I'm proud as a mole with eagle eyes
And that's feeling some kind of proud, baby
See where I'm coming from?
I'm as happy as a monkey with a peanut machine
'Cause you're my goose that laid the golden egg
Come on, goose, kinda really feelin' alright baby
Feelin' alright baby
Hey baby, I'm with you goose, like a goose
Hey baby, crazy 'bout you babe
Oh, you feel some kind of good, babe
Stick my chest out babe
