| Quite surprised not to see a thread about either (unless I have missed it), provided the soundtrack to many important moments in my life between the two of them, happy memories, RIP both.

| I think people are probably a bit tired of individial RIP threads to be honest.
You often see them on here about people no-one but the OP has heard of, and before you know it, every other thread is an RIP one.
Perhaps this thread should be the start of a general condolences thread?

| The bee gees are definitely a guilty pleasure of mine and my favourite song of theirs was not even a big hit for them (spirits having flown). R.I.P to both of them. It sounds daft to say I feel like my youth has died

| I'm in the category of loved their music, thought they were plonkers.
Donna Summer? As I said on Twitter: sad, sad.
Both provided some of the background to my early adulthood.
Respect to both.

I think she was asking why you thought they were plonkers?
In fact I'd like to know. I don't think they particularly came across in a negative way.

On the basis of a recent documentary alone, utterly lacking in any sense of self-deprecation and humour. So unbelievably full of themselves, convinced of their total genius, and also a tad creepy, in a Cliff sort of way.
As I said, I love some of the music.

| Two of the most unique voices pop music ever produced.
Donna Summer may have been the queen of disco but her defining record for me was her brilliant version of Macarthur Park.
I was never 100% convinced about Robin Gibb's warbling "billy goat" style*, but loved it nonetheless. And nobody has ever improved on it in any cover version, it just has to be Robin. The Bee Gees just came up with a whole host of classic tunes, but I reckon they were at their best with schmaltzy ballads, and my defining Robin Gibb track (though it's a close call) would be I've Gotta Get a Message to You
Both leave a catalogue of music that has already stood, and will stand, the test of time.
* [size=85though nowhere near as annoying as Barry Gibb trying to look the hardman-TheBigIAm-hairy-rockstar while singing in that falsetto![/size

The only good thing to come out of that mid 70s disco crap was that it directly led to PUNK and proper music
(saying that there were one or two good songs which are worth a listen).

| I just thought I needed to point out that
"Robin Gibb, Donna Summer"
is in fact an anagram of
"Mind-numbing, rare boobs".
Odd, that, but I think they'd like it

| Rumours on the twittersphere that Mikhail Gorbachev has bought the farm too. Maybe not as popular but had a damn sight more impact in the world than a couple of warblers.
Correction, looks like he's still hanging around

Even if he had joined Robin and Donna in the choir invisibule, I don't think this thread was meant as a yardstick to judge the relative world impacts made by random pop stars and random countries' leaders?
And I didn't even know he could sing, although I love his tattoo

First of all I have to declare that I absolutely hated the late 1970s disco era, hated it then, hate it now, always will, served up in a tub and sold as choclate ice cream.
So you won't be surprised that I totally disagree with your opinion on how she violated one of Jimmy Webb's finest songs.

Do you remember the time they were on Clive Anderson's chat show and they got up mid-interview and fooked off? They didn't seem to like having the taken out of them, that's for sure.
