| A place in the top flight is a good reward i would think they will make a trophy for whoever finishes top and for whoever finishes top of the regular season that's just my opinion,
There will be a lot more to play for and far better rewards under the new structure than there currently is with increased funding to help bridge the gap finish top and you'll receive 650k rather than at the minute 90k-100k that's a massive difference I think the benefit of that money will really start to close the gap in the middle 8 after 2-3 years

| I'll be honest, i've read all six pages of this, and i've no idea what's happening. Imagine a non RL fan looking in, he'll think we've been taking funny tablets. The whole thing is just a farce. It just needs sorting properly. Then stick with it.

No I'm with you and the Swiss mate but if we get it we will have to find a way to live with it ...... until they change it again!

I think it's a dreadful idea. Will alienate a high percentage of current supporters and attract next to no new supporters. People don't like things they can't easily understand.

| I'm not for the 3x8 split I'd much rather there be a straight one up one down promotion I just don't buy the argument that it's too complicated. I think it will do more for the game than the current licensing though which i'm glad to see the back of but on the other hand they can swap and change the leagues all they want but at the end of the day there simply isn't enough money in the game half of SL can't really afford to be full time clubs let alone anyone from the championship

| I dont understand why it is not easy to understand its hardly rocket science !! Football fans have embraced the Playoffs It is not that much more complicated
Superleague Teams -
Finish in top 8 for Guaranteed position in next seasons Super League - play other top 8 in expanded playoffs (Points carried forward in seasons matches against other top 8 teams) Grand Final for top two teams
Finish in bottom 4 - You might get relegated to Championship. Play bottom 4 SL and top 4 Champ sides once in league format. Top 3 guaranteed place in Superleague 4th and 5th play off for final Super League place. Play off losers and 6th 7th and 8th will play in the championship next season
Championship Teams
Finish in top 4 - You are in a chance of Promotion to Super League- Play 4 sl and other top 4 champ sides as above
Finish 5th and lower - You will be playing in the Championship next season however you could be relegated Play other 5 - 12 in league format (results in seasons matches will be carried forward) Top 2 will contest Championship Shield and Bottom 2 will be relegated to Championship 2
One easy way to simplify this system is dont carry over the seasons results and just think about these mini leagues as the Playoffs because most rugby league fans know where they need to finish to get into the Playoffs or if you want an alternative promotion relegation method we could follow the football playoffs SL 11th v Champ 2nd, SL12th v Champ 1st play home and away and winners of both ties play in Grand Final for place in next seasons Superleague

My main objections are
1. Too many games
2. Finances still not good enough to give Div 2 clubs a fair crack at promotion
3. If you're an ambitious Div 2 club, you have to sign players at the start of the season with the last seven games in mind. Will they come ?
And from a purely aesthetic point of view, I don't like the idea that you constantly seem to be in a group, qualifying for another group. There's no climax to the competition.

1) I disagree 23 + 8 + 5 if reach final Challenge Cup so a max 36 we played 38 last season and for a club like sheffield we are likely to have 2 -3 rounds in the CC so thats 33-34 which IMHO is fine. If we went for 12 team league and playoffs if you dont reach the playoffs you will just have 11 home games which will spell financial trouble for some clubs love or hate it the proposed system will give you at least 14 home games.
2) Totally agree but I am not sure what the RFL can do about this the superleague teams will block extra funding to Championship teams, anyway we dont have enough resources & players for the top championship teams to go full time
3) Yes if you pay them enough imagine if Salford were in the championship and the Dr took over and spent loads of money i expect the players would sign, Sheffield have recruited well on a low budget and hopefully will continue to do so and if we are fortunate to be promoted to the Superleague we will have the money to attract better players
4) I kind of agree with you however the proposed 3 8's IMHO is more interesting and the final round of games could produce some must win games and there is a G/F for 4th v 5th

Question your arithmetic a bit but take your point. Imho, we should start in March and finish in September - 30/31 weeks, depending on how the calendar falls. One game a week and everyone gets a week off for the Challenge Cup final. So 29 games, maybe 30.
In 2012, we had 11 home games on the season ticket. Nobody went bust. Extra games aren't that big a money-spinner for us. We probably take around £8000, the government want a sixth of that for VAT, which leaves about £6700. If we win both games, pay the rent, stewarding and other expenses for the home game and the bus for the corresponding away game (for which we get £0.00 revenue), that money's gone. So whether we make a profit depends very much on how the commercial staff do. They need to find 13 match sponsors at a time when they're struggling to find 11.
Quote 2) Totally agree but I am not sure what the RFL can do about this the superleague teams will block extra funding to Championship teams, anyway we dont have enough resources & players for the top championship teams to go full time'"
Totally flies in the face of 3 below ...... I doubt if any club could win promotion without a deep-pocketed director and, whilst I don't think you can stop someone putting his money into a pet team, for a number of reasons, I don't think it should be encouraged.
Quote 3) Yes if you pay them enough imagine if Salford were in the championship and the Dr took over and spent loads of money i expect the players would sign, Sheffield have recruited well on a low budget and hopefully will continue to do so and if we are fortunate to be promoted to the Superleague we will have the money to attract better players'"
Players like success on the field. They'll choose a team in $uperleague 1 over a team in $uperleague 2 because they'll see themselves in the top eight come the play-offs. At the moment, there are full time and part time players. Clubs may change divisions, players tend not to.
Quote 4) I kind of agree with you however the proposed 3 8's IMHO is more interesting and the final round of games could produce some must win games and there is a G/F for 4th v 5th'"
Grand Final for fourth and fifth just about says it all.
I just see this as one of those eighties Soccer World Cup things. You were in a group to qualify for another group with a semi-final and final knock out at the end. An idea than lasted about ten minutes.
Here we're in a group of 12, fighting to qualify for a group of eight. Once we're in the group of eight, we're qualifying for a group of twelve next year .... it just doesn't float my boat. Purely personal view, obviously. There's not even a Rail Cup to add a bit of variation.

www.therfl.co.uk/news/article/29 ... -statement
A meeting of Super League (Europe) to discuss a proposed restructuring of the competition was today suspended without resolution after six clubs absented themselves from proceedings.
Officials from Catalan Dragons, Huddersfield Giants, Hull FC, Hull Kingston Rovers, Warrington Wolves and Wigan Warriors walked out of the meeting, meaning no vote could be taken.
Eight clubs had indicated their support for proposals to reduce the number of clubs in Super League from 14 to 12 from the 2015 season.
However the six clubs blocked a decision on the format of Super League from 2015 on the basis that any debate on change should only take place alongside a review of the competition’s commercial management and governance.
Super League (Europe) Chairman Brian Barwick said: “It is very disappointing that we were unable to take a vote on such important issues because some clubs chose to leave the room and refuse to participate further.
“In many ways this form of action is unprecedented. These proposals would have had a positive impact on the whole sport but they were halted by a minority of clubs.
“Clearly some of the clubs have deep-rooted issues and between us we have to find a way of resolving our differences for the benefit of both Super League and the wider game.
“It is my view that this was a very unsatisfactory way for the six clubs to demonstrate their frustration.”
It seems it will rumble on and on with no end in sight

| It would have been interesting if Fax, Feath, Eagles and Leigh had been elected to the super league by the remaining 8 clubs in the room the absence of the walk outs having effectively reducing super league to 12!!!!

| let the 6 leave, let them market a 6 team competition all by themselves and see how well it works
For me the RFL should now make the decision even if it is the dreaded 3x8's if a few want to break away then good luck to them especially the french side they will need all the luck they can get

| I thought the restructure this was to put on hold until after the world cup !!! at least Leeds and St Helens and the bottom teams have not abstained. I am now sure this is all now about the money will the rfl give in and allow one player free of the salary cap and an increased salary cap. I cant see the top 6 forming there own league what are they going to do play each other 4 times a season and then have a playoff series how interesting would that be !!! so the top 6 need the rfl and the rfl need the top 6

I thought that too
Maybe the RFL wanted to get it sorted out as soon as possible and were expecting to get the new structure rubber stamped, I'm only guessing though

As I've said before, Ralph and Nigel might come up with hare-brained schemes but it's the clubs who vote for them.
