| Eagles 46 - 4 Leeds Met
I don't was to disrespect Leeds Met but I do think it's time for the Eagles players to step up and show what they can really do it's time to entertain the supporters and express themselves.
And I do wish that this was at Bramall Lane.
Will Leeds Met be bringing "workshy students"? If so I hope we can get similar support from Sheffield-Hallam (Liam and ESO are not classed as workshy )

I hope i'm right and I don't disrespect Leeds Met but hoping for a big performance because otherwise our game against widnes will be an embrassment and we need a good performance if all those new fans we hope to entice with the opens days in town and the LGBT community with the shirt we are wearing come and watch...
Think we will run away with it 1st half and they wil get a few easy tries when we slack off near the end. - I did say we'd win haven and hunslet though...
Glad I got a mention airborne as non-workshy as i'm on my placement year, 9-5, Monday-Friday, can't wait to be a student again come september, I miss daytime TV! (not to say I don't have a cheeky look on here when my boss isn't around )

| Having stopped being a student and having entered the world of work, I really do miss Homes under the Hammer and Neighbours! Asked a mate who does sports science at Leeds Met if they are bringing many over, he hadnt heard a thing about it!

Joking apart I think that the initiative to entice the students is a fantastic idea, especially to the Bramall Lane games.

| I think the open days in town are to try and attract the general public along but I agree, the work the club does with Hallam already, especially in terms of training facilities and players already I don't see why they shouldn't entice students.
The amount of students that live in halls around the Bramall Lane areas (must be around 4000, with the forge housing nearly 700 i think right next door to Bramall lane) and then add the huge number of students living in houses around the london road, shoreham street and ecclesall road & norfolk park area. I don't see why Eagles shouldn't peppper them with flyers for say £10 for 2 or 3 games then offer them a season ticket for say £40 for the rest of the games.
Hopefully the varsity match will be a curtain raiser to a game this year again too.
Apart from I missed watching saints and love RL the reason I started watching the eagles is that it was something to do on a sunday afternoon!

| I'm assuming that the Eagles have to pay the visitors' expenses?
So lets make the students feel at home by having the after match food as cold baked beans, could even do it straight from the tin making the experience must more sustainable.
Actually that is probably better than the cr*p that DVS will serve them up.

| Let's be honest, I was a total mismatch but well done to the boys on a professional performance and well done to Leeds Met who despite their obvious shortcomings never gave up and showed great maturity, I wish them well.
Honourable mentions to Danny Mills, who had a great game and showed us that maybe the Danny of old is still there, Jack who had a great go forward game and Jamie Cottle who showed great awareness and handling.
I'm still not sold on McDonald at half back. He wasn't great in the first half, second half better but still looked lost at times. Who picked MOM? And which game were they at?
Lastly, what a pitiful attendance. Shameful.

From reading that I think I was at a different game to you! I thought Danny was his usual self, completely anonymous. Two knock ons and lots of sideways running. When Menzie passed him the ball behind the line I could imagine him saying "here you are, it's the only way you're going to score" but maybe in a few fewer words.
I thought Dane had a good game, we know he's not a halfback, Mark knows he's not a halfback, he knows he's not a halfback, but what options do we have? This whole Kyle Wood scenario is an absolute joke, give him back to Huddersfield full time and let's go out and buy another halfback, even with QLT here we're still short in my opinion. I think Dane can be useful at loose forward, he makes decent yards and isn't afraid to put his head in where it hurts.
Agree about the attendance, I don't care who we're playing or what the venue is, 350 for a home game is embarrassing, very few people turned up and payed on the gate. Maybe the pricing structure was wrong, I certainly don't think we did enough to entice students from Leeds Met to attend.
Professional performance and job done, in the hat for the next round. Next week is the real test, then we will really see what this squad is made of.

| It's always difficult to properly assess how well we played in such a mis-match, however, I was a bit more impressed with Jamie Cottle, it was great having Alex S back & Pete Green stepped in ok at Hooker.
Thought Danny had a much better game overall, set up Menzie's 1st try superbly & BTW the main reason for wingers running laterally on the ball return is to look for a gap and/or get back to the middle to be nearer to the forwards to set up the drive. Ok it doesn't always work out, but it's better than risking getting pushed into touch.
Ok it's going to be tough against Widnes, but I think the gloom has lifted slightly. At least today was a bit of a much-needed confidence boost.

| Agreed with ches vegas, hard to asset the performance considering the mis matched but it was a much needed confidence boost.
Even with such a mis-matched I thought that not letting a single try in was testament to our defence which looking at it compared to the eagles tv highlights of the leigh game (didn't go to the game) has improved alot.
Think widnes will be tough but hope we can play QLT and misi

| Bang goes the theory that the student game is strong??
Leeds Met win the comp every year but got 82 points up them?
I agree there's a big gulf in class but 82 points is a bit much me thinks.

There is a gulf in class but looking at when the points were scored I think fitness plays a big part. Loads of points in the last 10 minutes of each half.

They should be fitter than us. Our players have to work. They're students so they have all day available to keep up their fitness levels.
