If certain inept and lacklustre individuals keep getting picked alongside players of genuine quality, how on earth does the club think it is going to hold on to its loyal fan base. Most of the fans will know the players I am referring to without me having to name them outright, but I will say Dane Mcdonald isn't one of them.
Mark Aston must have his reasons for relying on these players to which I have my theories, but the rot as to stop now before their feeble performances manifests itself in the direction of the club. In these 'Malignant Times,' the club needs to remain on the front foot, we may have limited resources, but we are far from making the most of them. With the top four finishing championship clubs(presumably), qualifying to play in a tournament against the top four French for 2012 the club should be exuding motivation. If we don't make this exclusive clique, it will knock us back light years!
Players with supposed experience, but nothing else, get the nod over players who would come on leaps and bounds if given the chance, one of which did a commendable stint against St Helens(and i've got to say if we hadn't started so cold, we could have turned them over, we were awesome!), so whats going on? The reserves is no yardstick for ascertaining the talents of a player, some may shine at that level, but others will need a taste of the first team before they will put their bodies on the line for one man and his dog.
I think that the first team has performed to my expectations this year being as we lost several players at the end of last season. The club recruited well and the younger players coming in have really stepped up to the mark but plenty of room for improvement.
We lost Liam Higgins who I thought was doing great hence his move to a SL club and I don't begrudge that one bit as it was all done in the correct manner. Dare I say that we haven't missed him as much as I thought we may because of the tremendous effort by the other forwards however with injuries coming in perhaps we will now.
The club as a whole is growing in a healthy way i.e. sustainable rather than trying to do things too quickly and going bust. This is a testament to all the non playing staff from board downwards. Sheffield Eagles aren’t in this game for the short term.
Thanks “sanjunien” – Toulouse was the first fixture that many of us use to look for and it will be missed on our calendar. That doesn’t mean to say that some of us will never come again to see a game even if it’s TOXIII vs another French side.
I like to think that the Eagles supporters are loyal, there aren’t many of us but we try and make as much noise as we can. We don’t chant abusively and I can only apologise the poor singing, I think we have to blame that on certain people spending too much time in bars with loud music that’s made them totally tone deaf!! Mind you some of the players are no better with the exception on Misi and Q who could be the South Sea's next boy band.
The Toulouse supporters have always made the Sheffield fans welcome despite any language barriers we have always been able to communicate. Walking round the city a lady noticed my wife’s Pentith Panthers polo and we ended up having a great chat in broken Franglais – and that’s what this sport is about – a common thought that we are lucky to be fans of a fantastic game. Taking that a bit further I feel I am lucky to be a fan of a fantastic club playing that fantastic game.
So last message to steeleagle – please don’t ever question any eagles supporters' loyalty to the club or the sport.
Szostak's one of our best players and Dane's had two brilliant games recently at Hunslet and home to Batley. Pete Green had a great game at prop yesterday.
Based on the budget, I don't see we could have done much better.
