| He'll only get a start if injuries kick in, unfortunately coach Dixon has roped on to the idea that only Aussies can play Rugby League.
Hannay and Dalle Court are ok in defence but offer absolutely nothing in attack.

maybe because he's not that good, remember Stevo creaming his pants over him the new Jamie Lyon i could have loooked good in that Saints team he was playing in

| I think it's unfair to judge either Tyrer or Smith from their short time at Widnes. Remember, in their first game, they scored cracking tries which won Widnes the game and they were both hailed as heros. But they were still playing as Saints players, with Saints style. I imagine it is difficult to do a short term loan as they did because they have to perform on demand but without the degree of practice that the other team members have in terms of coaching style and techniques and level of play, not to mention bonding with other team members.
Tyrer's weakness was his defence. He is a brilliant goalkicker and he knows where the tryline is and isn't afraid to go there. But he hasn't mastered his tackling technique. He seems awkward and maybe a bit wary? If he has displayed the same weakness at Celtic then it is perhaps that reason which is stopping Dixon from playing him. Or it may be as suggested: Dixon favours his longstanding Aussie lads at present and so Tyrer is simply in reserve until injury strikes, which it definitely will do (and already has if I remember right).

I think he has done fantastic so far, good but safe. He has had quite afew good runs. Imo he has been one of your stand out players in your 2 games.

yes they did
i am a widnes supporter and they worked wonders for us last season
matty smith has a brilliant kicking game and organised our whole team last year
tyrer scored some very important tries for us last season
two vs salford to win us the game
should be given a full chance on your first team
plus 5,000 attendance quite impressive for first home game of the season
good luck for the season

| Ste Tyrer's a very decent player, let's not forget he's still only 19. He is still suspect in defence and that is one of the main areas he needs to work onIf you're a centre, defence is not an area you can lapse in because you will always be found out. I would like to see him get his shot, maybe not against St Helens, with the quality they've got and also they will know his weaknesses, but within the next few weeks. If he plays against Saints, I fear his confidence may take a dive.

| Looking forward to seeing Ste Tyrer in action. I'm surprised he hasn't had his chance before now. Hannay and Dalle Cort don't contribute anyting in attack what so ever.

| So what happened, Dixon gave the impression he was going to play him then didnt include him in the 19.
I think its wrong that theyre denying him his chance he obviously came to play first team and he could easily have gone on loan somewhere else, or probably have stayed at saints and got a game given the state of their left side. The lad must be really frustrated.
We need to score ponts, saturday was a great defensive effort but we offered nothing going forward, particularly out wide, the lad has a great points tally with the ball in hand and the boot.
Why not give him a go?

Or maybe he has just not cut the mustard yet to break into the first team squad.
You wouldn't keep a player who deserved a first team place in the reserves if you're looking for results would you.

Alas, this was the problem with Steve back home too. It's his defence. He's got a fantastic boot and knows where the tryline is but he just can't seem to get his tackling sorted. It's not that he doesn't try, but he just doesn't seem to be able to conquer the technique. I hope he develops anyway.

As do I as it will benefit both our clubs.
I don't think John Dixon is silly enough to keep him in the reserves if he was deserving of a first team place, do you?

| I thought the whole point of Steve going to you was to get first team rugby that he wasnt gong to get at Saints , it does seem very silly to play him in the reserves when he could have played in the reserves at Saints , If Dixon doesnt believe he is good enough , why have him on loan ? , and also the lads confidence must be taking a battering as nobody seems to trust him to play Super League , seems like some very strange decision making going on at both clubs maybe

| what he says is true , he could have gone on loan elsewhere but the offer was regular first team rugby which has obviously not been produced , how will we ever know if he will improve if he isn`t played , as I said , he could have played in our reserves for all the good it has done him

I don't know. Dixon seems to be a good coach. He must be, since he's managed to do wonders down there and so I would assume that his decision making is sound, although coaches do have their hangups. I did notice in this week's RL press that Tyrer was noted for a 'big hit' on one of our reserve guys so maybe he is battling his defensive demons. Who knows. I just hope he gets his chance at first grade because otherwise aside from any fringe benefits there may be in Bridgend, he may as well have stayed here. Perhaps Dixon presently sees him as having a role with your reserve guys? Helping them adjust to SL level? Although it sounds like they're doing just fine anyway given their beating of Leeds and almost beating of us!

| I saw Ste Tyrer play for there reserves yesterday at Craven Park .....and to be honest he didn't play well enough to be in a Super League Side at the moment ....he was outplayed by both the Rovers centres for the day and neither one of them are anywhere close to earning a full time contract never mind a place in the robins starting line up yet.
