Quote ="headhunter"Were St Helens two Irish players playing for Montpellier?'"
yes,met them both before and after the game what with me being a Daints fan etc and they are bir buggers !!!! Ian Cross at 6ft 3 is a midget compared to Aaron McCloskey who is 6ft 7
both very good looking players coming from Union in Munster & Limerick and sent to france to 'learn the game' as Ian put it.
Ian Cross - played on the right wing though looked comfotable when asked to take the high balls (possible FB material ?) and in a more pivotal role with touches of Lee Gaskell at times with some good positional kicking - I think his preferred position would be either at FB or SO - he's is quick too, maybe as quick as Tom Briscoe, the TO fullback (no slouch) intercepted and broke free from his own 10 metre line and ran 70 metres unapposed but Ian chased what seemed a lost cause and caught him on the opposing 10 metre line ! really impressive speed and committment from the young lad.He went off in the second half with a rib injury. He really does look a good prospect and will be joining Swinton (dual registered) in march he thinks.
Aaron McCloskey - a man mountain but gentle giant - didn't understand a word of his strong accent but he did his talking on the pitch with a Jammer like performance showing great agility, speed, strength and intelligence and definitely one for the future - the guy has everything needed to be up there with Peacock & Morley etc and deffo with the potential of any of the Burgess boys (pity he's Irish !) - he made a couple of seemingly impossible off-loads when tackled by three or four opponents setting up good scoring chances for his team - again off to Swinton if all goes well. Can't wait to see hem play again in a couple of weeks at Villeneuve.
The future is bright at Saints with these guys coming through...
