| No more money worries for any club in SL!!!!
SLE are going to pay the wages of every player in SL, well they can’t just pay Bradfords wages........................can they?
I assume we will all benefit from SLE generosity !!!!!!!

| If this development was going to adversely impact on the finances of Super League clubs I assure you it wouldn't have happened.
Bradford find buyer - clubs get all their money back.
Bradford don't find buyer - even better, clubs get Bradford's TV money next year. And every other year because once the league has gone down to 13 it won't go back up again.

If they don't find a buyer to pay off their debts, they'll be in the Championship next year. Those debts are ÂŁ1.5 million.
All of their squad are now available on free transfers.
Rovers [icould[/i get the same deal I reckon - 12 team super league would be neater than 13. More like a last supper than a free lunch, but.

| I think an odd number would work well and give every team an additional 2 weekends off. Split the SKY money again and the clubs wouldn't miss the additional home fixture

| 10 VERY competitive sides with 10 more pro clubs in the league below with P&R. TV deals for both leagues, good money for the league below the SL, not the same but not far off if the right deals can be done.
Both leagues would run with the same rules and regulations barring the salary cap which would be capped at a slightly lower level to reflect the less sponsorship monies going to clubs.
Emphasis should be put on youth development now that the NRL is upping its salary cap and eventually upping its member clubs. Less second rate Aussies and Kiwis the better with only real quality being allowed in.
Not only would games be at a higher intensity but with 20 full time teams the youth players would gain greater experience at a higher level much quicker, giving the England/GB selectors a bigger pool to choose from. With P&R reintroduced but players not instantly having to worry about having to find a new club due to staying in a full time environment, the old levels of worry that forced franchising would no longer be of concern. Players would be on a two tier contract and would have the incentive that if they were relegated they still had years on their contracts at lesser money so their performances should reflect that desire to play in the top league but not worry at where their next years salary would come from!
The leagues below these two would be development leagues that would see many top clubs' academy players farmed out to gain experience in a tougher comp than the current academy league. There would be no P&R from these but when a club feels it is ready to become a top flight club they could apply for a licence and either an extension of the 2nd league or a member club would be ommited if it did not meet the required standards.
The current 14 SL sides plus Halifax, Featherstone, Leigh, Sheffield, Whitehaven/Barrow/Workington (or a combination of those clubs) along with maybe a reintroduction of a Welsh team would be the make up of the two leagues. Clubs would be fighting for the top 10 spots and all would know well before the season starts that the bottom 4 clubs would be plying their trade in the lower league.
The standards would be greater at the top of the game and with more full time clubs the all round standard would improve. The youth competition would flourish, giving a higher intensity to lower leagues action. With a better quality 2nd division comp the tv rights would be worth something and sponsors would hopefully be forthcoming.

| There is not enough quality to go around 14 clubs, so we are years off being able to sustain 20.

A point I keep trying to get through to the many people putting forward the 2 x 10 team format, with little success. There's also the small matter of the increased TV deal needed for this format to work.

Yep - it's a good idea if money were no object. Desirable and achievable are unfortunately only very distant cousins.
Also there's an assumption that SL2 would look quite like SL, whereas the likelihood is it'd be just a rebranded Championship. Sadly.
Franchising has turned out to give the authorities more responsibility than they really want and left them with too many ugly choices.
P+R can return in one of two ways, IMO:
1. Narrow the gap between SL and the Championship. Ideally entirely by making the second tier stronger. Realistically, at least in part, at the expense of SL clubs. That won't fly.
2. Do it over a 3 year cycle, to give promoted clubs a bit of time to adapt. Even then, the club-trained rules would have to be relaxed a little for that team, unless academy rugby were dramatically overhauled.
