| I have somehow managed to simultaneously stub my big toe, fall over and slice about three or four millimeters off the end of it.
I tell thee, it ruddy smarts.

I have a friend who answers the frequent enquiry 'how tall are you'with 6'14" - the funniest thing I see him doing is when putting on a bet at our local pub you have to bend right down to speak through a little window, but he just leans over the top of the glass partition and hands his money down to the girl.
The biggest human being i've met is Les Mason - Willie's big brother. He is 6'8" tall and as broad as a house. He played League at a trim 160kg. I have a friend who is a 75kg halfback who once got suspended for 3 weeks for punching him - said he just got sick of the big running at him.

Hello Rooplet, are you well?
Surely, the 6'14" guy is the biggest guy you've met? Does he not qualify as human?

| So Lord Coe has been put in charge of sport with regard to the post Olympics legacy.
That is a damn good call IMHO as is a confirmation that the lottery funding will stay at current levels right up until Rio 2016 which is 2 more years than previously promised.
I am/was worried that the momentum leading up too and including London 2012 would be lost just as it was for the Aussies after Sydney which would be a travasty.
My opinion is that having more kids in sport help with the nations health long term, helps with giving them an aim instead of getting into trouble.
Plus more bodies taking part leads to a better chance of you finding a champion and watching winners helps with the nations morale.

Australia went pretty well in the two Olympics following Sydney, and 35 medals isn't that bad this time, despite being a bit short on gold.
We are spending a lot more money on elite sports than we did before 2000 Olympics, and we are still doing very well for a country our size, but you have to expect a drop off in the number of people prepared to put years of their lives into winning medals. If you follow our pattern you will do nearly as well as this time in 4 years time as most of your best back up and a whole lot of younger people who were just off the pace this time are inspired to do well, but after that you will start to drop back to a more 'normal' medal count.

Ian Thorpe himself admitted that you had missed a golden opertunity back in 2000.
It isn't just about in 4 years it is about all those 1000's of kids that will now walk through the doors of sporting clubs that have to be caught and hooked permanently.
That was the whole point of the legacy they were talking about.

Ian Thorpe is always going to say we should spend more on sports - especially on guys like him.
Australia has spent 600 million on Olympic sportsmen in the last four years for 7 gold medals, and as someone said on the radio this morning, NZ spent a tenth as much for half the medals we got.

So is there not an arguement that it hasn't been used effectively?
Also 2000 was 12 years ago (obviously) so surely if you had grabbed the attention and the children of that feel good factor then NOW would be the time you would have seen it as now would be when they would be coming to the fore.
Ian Thorpe has said it, Ben Johnson has said it, John McEnroe has said it, Steve Redgrave has said it and he has quoted IOC members saying it as well that being that no other Olympics have so heavily focused on a post games legacy.
That was why the opening ceremony had 7 up and coming athletes lighting the torch instead of a current or former Olympian.
Legacy was ALWAYS the aim hopefully we will see it through.

We talked about Legacy.
We put a =#FF0000Edit-AS of money into sports.
It just isn't the same thing when you have 2 weeks on tele every 4 years as opposed to the whole country working towards it for 8 years.
You might even do better next olympics than this one, but eventually it's time to come back to earth.

Possibly but with regard to legacy the IOC and numerous very successful sportsman/Olympians from numerous nations have stated that we are doing something that no other host country have done.
Time will tell if they are correct.

| Australia's biggest 'failure' (if you like) is failing to keep hold of their top coaches. You can put all the money in the world into sport but if the coaches aren't up to scratch then you're already two steps behind.
Team GB track cycling will have a job in the years ahead to keep their 'secret squirrel' club ahead of the rest. With Chris Boardman no longer working with GB his 'services' may be available to the highest bidder. Jamie Staff too, now coaching the US team, is using the GB format as the benchmark for developing a strong US team.

All very true.
I'll tell you what though if we could afford it I would put a cheeky bid in for 2024 in Manchester or Birmingham.
It isn't impossible as remember USA had the 84(LA) and the 96(Atlanta) games and don't forget that Steve Redgrave said that members of the IOC had asked if we wanted to bid again.

good coaches are international commodities now.
our gymnasts have a chinese coach
our weightlifters have an east german coach
our pole vaulters have a russian coach
our archers have a korean coach
our male swimming sprinters have a russian coach
all the good female chinese swimmers are trained in australia by australian coaches, but a lot of our good swimmers train in america under american coaches.
