If the rumours are to be believed and Josh does emigrate then I wouldnt hesitate to try him at hooker. Hes got good hands,excellent defender and would benefit from being more involved. Need to give him a bit more time rather than castigate the guy. That will do nothing for his confidence.

A few people have mentioned recently (in various places) that the SL and NRL are completely different animals. They could be right. Keating may be well respected in the NRL because he plays very well in their formulaic games, but his style simply doesn't suit SL. If Keating was a top class player, he would understand this and try to change his style to meet the competition that he chose to play in. The fact he hasn't does not necessarily make him a bad scrum half, just not a SL scrum half.

Ultimately the result is the same though, he needs to change his style or go.

I agree with this, think some players, Dobson, for example, are better suited to Super League and vice versa

Your post suggests that CC has been slow in showing backbone. He has only been in the job 3 weeks and gas disciplined two players. He was not in a position to show backbone in this way when Sandy was here.

Gassing players seems a bit harsh lol. Think what he meant was cc is showing backbone in the coaches role that has been lacking under previous encumbents.

I'm going to go against the grain and say I haven't given up on Keating, although he has largely been rubbish.

Games three to about eight I thought he showed promise, he has a decent short kicking game somewhere trying to get out, but he severely lacks that yard of pace, or savvy and awareness of where the near defenders are from step to go through the gap that a genuine quality half has to have.

I'm in favour of switching him to nine, but can we all please remember that it's his brother that is/was an NRL hooker.

But his brother is probably the worst player in NRL history.

And I would telephone the AA for you both in advance just in the off chance.

Having been a Rovers follower for over 50 years I feel that I have to say there are times when it disgusts me some of the comments that are posted on here about certain player, this time Keating is the one who is being abused. I realise everyone is entitled to there opinions I have criticised players myself but The abuse he is getting far too much now he is not as bad as some people are saying . Give the lad a chance mind if he has any sense he won't take any notice of some of the morons on here he will just laugh all the way to the bank

Agree with fun time frankie Jason netherton is having his best season for a number of years. Well worth a new 1 year deal.

Keating will not 'come good' in my opinion although everyone to their opinion. Not at scrum half anyway although I would definitely give him a go at 9.

Sneyd is a great signing for Hull, when he switched play and direction, assessed what options were available in the blink of an eye and then sent a pin point kick to the winger to pull the game out of the fire...that was the only single thing that could possibly have saved the game for Cas he saw it and then executed it.

The big thing is that Sneyd was in hyper intensive mode a ball of energy, alert, ever seeking any opportunity for him to exploit. Keating is in a tunnel vision of making sure he is following the game plan, how can he possibly ever 'come good' as a scrumhalf?

The mindsets are polar apart. In actual fact Keating can kick, pass , tackle and run every bit as good or better than Sneyd. He has all the core skills he probably looks great in training.

But the big difference is the mindset. Whilst one has the mindset of 'Whatever happens I am going to find a way to win this game for my team ' the other has a mindset of 'whatever happens I am going to follow the gameplan'.

As I say Keating can pass, kick, tackle his core skills are spot on. Put him at 9 with a very defined role, that will get him more involved, get him running with the ball from dummy half it could be the making of him.

He doesn't have the imagination, energy or drive to 'come good' at 7. It's not possible.

Dropped and in reserve grade for nearly all of 2013....and not a single offer to stay in NRL.

I don't actually say this means he couldn't make it in Super League I base my opinion on what he has done since he got here.

And I actually rate him! He has all the core skills but I am telling you he cannot and will not ever be a Millward a Murphy a Webster or a Dobson or even a Sneyd. Its just not possible. But maybe he could be a Josh Hodgson.

The chairman has offered him a wedge plus to go so not not looking good for the bloke...

Unfortunately our budget does not stretch to a top class replacement or a player of rugby intelligence, apparently we only pay six figures to props, people called Travis and wingers..we already need most of our budget to replace Josh, as the only local players we pay well , or massively overpay, are crap centres who cannot tackle...our best player doesn't even get an offer to make him change his mind..

Sadly what happens when the chairman and CEO/drain cleaner are left in charge of the salary cap, is that you are left looking at the middle tier next year without much hope...

Absolute travesty, entire Hull Rugby League in the same boat, really unbelievable when you stop to consider that a minimum of £20 million has been spent on the respective first teams in the last 10 years...where is all that dough..??

Back in Aus for the best part, or spent on pubs or in Brough...any of it deserved???
