| It would seem Bens chance for an England cap is back on. If he keeps playing the way he is, and win us the cup as i expect he will play a major part. For me Bens enthusiasm drove us to were we are now. Now he has been let off lightly he should grasp the opportunity and realise the potential he has got.
Cmon Ben.

I believe it wasn't the first time Raynor had been in trouble with the law but failed to find a similar post from you criticising him.
Double standards me think.

Both clubs have thugs in their ranks but I would assume both clubs will stick by them some on this thread seem to have forgotten that fact.
Each club have/will have made their own decisions and will live with them.
I will say that the RFL getting involved may open a can of worms they may want to keep shut tbh!

I agree, I was gobsmacked when Raynor (I assume that's who you are referring to) got off with the sentence he did, and Cooke before him.

| Quote ="Mild Rover"Hull KR have 3 choices IMO:
1. Say the punishment set by the court is sufficient and he should not be punished twice for the same crime.
2. Suspend him for a period to show their thorough diapproval.
3. Sack him.
The last seems unlikely - he has been in the 17 regularly, while the case has been ongoing. There is no real risk to the club in keeping him, as if he makes another mistake he'll be a guest of Her Majesty and we can try to find a replacement then - swapping the certainty of a problem now for the possibility of one down the road isn't a risk.
There are ethical arguments for and against a suspension. The rugby arguments (you have to be realistic about these things) are mostly against - especially going into the hectic Easter period with one 3/4 already out for 3 months. He's lucky not to be going to prison and maybe lucky he's not a prop.'"
Agree with this, although perhaps a fine might be added to the list.
As far as sacking him is concerned, he would probably find himself picked up very quickly by either Salford or perhaps another club struggling a bit like Bradford. It would only really be the RFL who could revoke his registration to stop him playing.
With regard to the sentencing, I suppose we have to remember that the prisons are full, and people are getting off with community sentences. A couple of years ago there was a case on TV of a repeat shoplifter (ok thats not as serious) where the judge said he couldn't put him behind bars because there was no room even though he wanted to. This guy then when on tv to talk about it. He had a pretty memorable face (a bit like a cat-weasel). Two days later I'm in John Lewis's and I saw him and thought I know that guy from somewhere. Next thing his stuffing perfume into his pockets. Told security and the nabbed him. Not sure what happened to him after that.
Sentencing is both punishment and risk. I suppose with the publicity of this and the risk it poses to Cockayne's career, then he would not be considered a public risk as the chances of him re-offending are slim (plus he would go straight to jail not passing go if he did.

| chasing a man out of a pub and giving him a kicking & then going back to do a bit more damage isnt being a silly boy,its outright thuggery.i wonder how many of you would be so blaise about it had it been a member of your family taking the kicking.ANY player for ANY team should be harshly punished for such a crime.you seem to forget these players are strong athletes, not your average joe.they can do serious damage.

| I was on jury service last year on a near identical case to Ben's, needless to say both young men got custodial sentances.
He's been extremely lucky and the fact that he's a sportsman and probably in a position to employ a top lawyer certainly will have helped his case. It's hard to take because if it was a member of joe public no doubt they would be in prison now. Whether it be Raynor,Cooke, Reardon or Pryce this should not be allowed to happen, the justice system is a joke.

I dis agree 100% thats a load of tosh, wether i support Bens sentence or not is irrelevant, but i fail to see how you can say its a must custodial case?
There are cases in the news week in week out of people getting off with this that and other things ranging from driving offences to murder, I dont believe for a second you were on jury duty and for anyone to suggest the man deserves prison seems based only on the fact that he is a Rovers player.
As has been stated Gareth Raynor who has been a bad boy on more than one or two occassions has gone on to successfuly represent hes country and thrive as a league player(well to a certain standard anyway),I remember having him join in our coaching sessions around four years ago with the kids as part of his community payback.
What i am saying is two wrongs dont make a right but if someone can learn what they have done and truly repent and seek to encourage others to behave better than they have, then even in the harshest of periods some good can come out of something very bad.

Personally, I think he and his friend should have been put in prison because they repeatedly kicked someone in the head whilst they were lying on the floor helpless. Not JUST because he's a Rovers player..

Just to spin it about, say for sake of argument, all hyperthetical like, would you view be the same if Cockayne was a FC player? Or is it just becuase he is a Rovers player you've decided people are lying about their jury service and developed the ability to determine posters motives based on 4 lines of text.

No my view regardless of who he played for would not change.
I was asked if i would accept help from G.Raynor as part of his community payback after one of hes mis-demeanors and took him on board, the club name is not important, ai am merely suggesting that people all over our country are getting more lenient sentences so just because Ben has it shouldnt be misconstrewed as something out of the ordinary.
As for the jury case bit, why say anything else? I dont believe the poster did jury service in a case almost exactly the same as Bens so why say any different?
