The biggest problem with Hall is his confidence - when it's gone he's a big liability. He's a brilliant kicker, though. Won the goal kicking comp between all the SL kickers a couple of years ago, including Tickle. I always thought we should have given him more responsibility in this area as it would have had the double benefit of raising his confidence and self-worth by contributing in this way.

Good point that, confidence is massive in rl and if Dobbo is out it would be good to see Craig take the kicks.

| I think hall will ave a gud game on Sunday look how much welham has tightened up in defence it's all about technique and training I think he will do okay, he has certainly got the pace and training the house down, if he impresses that much it's gonna be a bit of a headache for Morgan in two weeks time.

| Morgan is no fan of the long looping passes as proven by his strangling of Paul Cooke in this department. It was Cookes biggest game winning play but if Morgan doesnt like it he is pretty harsh in telling you!
It is like Murrell can kick a ball within one yard of the line for players to jump and challenge like what Byron Ford did but Morgan see's it as a high risk play and would rather keep the ball on the floor so more often than not a grubber through is used by anyone but Murrell.
So I do not see Hall's unexpected passes being a problem and if they start to become a problem he'll be given a clip around the ear and I can be sure it wont happen very much at all!

| ive read a lot about these famous passes of hall since we signed him and have come to the point where i am actually picturing him throwing the ball over the roof of the east stand
for what its worth i can see him putting in a decent display on sunday causing a selection headache for the future

You'll know better than me as I don't really pay all that much attention to your club but I do seem to remember him alluding to it. It also seems to be an opinion that pervades across your board.
I'd just like to see him have an uneventful game in a win. The kids clearly a confidence player, I just want him to be solid and not make any glaring mistakes, this is a new start for him. I really do think he has talent but although he's had more than enough chances at his previous club I'd prefer to treat him as a rooky and gradually settle him in.

No, you're misinterpreting general fan backlash.
He tries too hard imo. But, his defense is woefully poor, he'll make Welham look like Gasnier in this respect. He doesn't really have good hands and his pass selection is sometimes shocking.
His plus points are that he can ghost through a gap and is rarely caught, and if you need someone to kick long when you're trapped in your 20 he has a hefty boot on him, deceptively so. 60-70m easily.

Misinterpretation of what I meant, Justin won't go to the press and blame Hall for anything, didn't want to insinuate that Agar had done, just pointing out that personal criticism is something that Agar gets involved in.

IMO how Hall does at Rovers will be a proper test of Morgan's ability. Hall's strengths and weaknesses were very much obvious at FC with a very good try return rate but poor defence and high error rate. Clearly the defensive issues have been resolved (Newton stating this in the HDM) so it just remains to be seen whether he can sort out the errors and fit into Morgan's structure. He'll get better service than at FC for sure.

Agree with that. My only reservation tomorrow is that it is likely that he will play on the right when we all know that he is more comfortable on the left. That said, if he performs well on his less favoured side then it will boost his confidence further. Playing on the same side of the park as Green and Newton should provide him with opportunities to show off his undoubted attacking prowess.

Also if and when Willie Mason gets here (You can ignore the odd one Mrs B you know) Craig Hall is just the kind of player you want on his shoulder.

hopefully people wont judge him after one game though MrsB, regardless of what the King of Hull says, we should be more realistic, shouldnt we?

| I agree with RBA I'd play him in his strongest position on the left. if he has defensive frailties he would be better defending between colbon and galea where he would get a lot of help. I know welham has started like a house on fire and it might seem daft to move him but he started on the right when he first broke into the team and his defence in the first 2 games has been spot on, he'd do a decent job inside foxy.

I'm not suggesting he's judged after one game. What I'm saying is that, for a multitude of reasons, he had 70+ SL games at Hull FC and never made a spot in the backline his own. Some of these reasons, like FC's love affair with Yeaman and Agar playing him unsuccessfully at FB, were out of his control. Some, like wellying the ball 3 yards forward into the stands, weren't. The point here is that there is a commonly held belief that Morgan has the Midas touch with developing players. There is evidence that he does develop players beyond their ability when they arrived at KR (Welham, Murrell) and evidence that is less compelling (Cooke, Ratu, arguably Clinton as examples). Hall has the rare commodities of natural flair and elusiveness, but accompanied by being somewhat error-prone and making poor decisions at times. He was not Agar's sort of player at all. The challenge is whether Morgan can optimise Hall's maverick and exciting playing style whilst at the same time either sorting out his downsides or building a "cover" plan to ensure he's not exposed in his weaker areas. I personally think he has a good chance at Rovers, and wish him well.
