Cas in peace........ just found this on another forum and it throws willis arrival into doubt
Infonews.co.nz has today received word from a trusted source that the NRL will hand down a life ban to 6 players and one manager this coming Monday following the NRL Grand Finals this weekend.
While news of the match fixing allegations broke earlier this week, and an expected announcement after this weekend's showpiece event for Rugby League, Infonews.co.nz understands that a life ban will be handed down to 3 players from the North Queensland Cowboys, 2 from the Sydney Bulldogs and one player from the Melbourne Storm.
Subject to confirmation from the NRL this coming Monday, Infonews.co.nz believes the players involved could include Willie Mason, Jonathan Thurston and Arran Payne from the Cowboys, Ryan Tandy and Hassan Saleh from the Bulldogs and Adam Blair from the Storm. One of the player's Managers is also set to be named.

i would also add these allegations could be very difficult to prove unless any players implicated were stupid enough to do a long and gleeson and put the bets on themselves with their own accounts.

In terms of detail, the infonews report is far more specific, in that they've named names and predicted bans. You could conclude that for them to feel comfortable enough to publish and be damned their lawyers must be confident enough with the accuracy of detail for the story to go ahead.
Fox, however, seem not to be as confident with their accuracy of detail, as they have kept their report very general.
I would be inclined, therefore, to be more convinced by the infonews report.

I've been doing the Steve Prescott marathon run today and had a few journo's doing it as well. The word is that five players, including Jonathon Thurston and Willie Mason and also the agent Sam Ayoub are all looking at life bans, I don't post rumours, but this one seems to have a bit of substance to it, it could be a bloody huge story in Oz.

You're rather contradictory as at present it is still only an unsubstantiated rumour , Rovers have in fact come out with a statement saying that they have spoken to Willie Masons agent and he has assured them that he is not implacated in any wrongdoings.
Until anything concrete is forthcoming i think it would be best that people refrain from making statements based on pure speculation. |

You'd imagine wrong, NRL and SL reciprocate bans and I'm sure Union and AFL will avoid anyone found guilty of such offences too. |
