This really irritates me this thing about "freeing up Richard Horne". He's a class runner of the ball but he ain't no off-half and never has been. Even supporting half-backs/off-halfs (or whatever you want to call them) have to have more to their game than just a running game.

Last season it only took Cooke or Dobson to have a decent game and we'd win comfortably.

The fact of the matter is that Richard Horne has been nothing since Paul Cooke moved East IMO same goes for Yeaman (AKA Sid the Snail)..

Stand-off half for a top-four team - the guy is a class player and the best passer of a ball in the Super League (if anyone disagrees with this point then please tell me who is better).

Kevin Sinfield springs to mind, also a few more are considered better imo due to consistency which has what has made Cooke become very average..

Tend to agree with some of that. Horne never really played in 2008 and it's fair to say was anonymous for most of 2009 bar the first few games. In fairness he's been recovering from a careerthreatening injury and diabetes, but nonetheless needs to step it up big time next year. Not really seen him play with a genuine 7 though, to form a partnership like Maguire does with Burrow, or Pryce with Long, or to a lesser extent Brown with Robinson. Might work, might not, but I think he's more likely to just do the running bit next to Long than was possible with Thorman.



Yeaman's pretty good at running a good line and hitting a gap. And putting in a trademark big hit or 2 per game. That's it. Creates nothing for his winger, sadly. One of those players that Agar will never drop, though, even though Briscoe, Hall and Turner should be challenging him.

As far as Wheeldon goes, the kid has been a true professional and I expect him to progress year on year under the guidance of our excellent coaching set-up.

FC's poor coaching was something that stiffled his development and I understand that FC's poor coaching was part of the reason that Scott had to wait for his chance at the start of the season but once he got his chance he went from strength to strength during the season and I personally hope he signs a contract extention.

I don't think so. They just opted to go for a losing formula of picking runners at half-backs instead of picking passers/kickers.

Even some of the Aussie fans who tuned in to watch Rovers vs Wire CCQF said Cooke's passing was as good as the stuff they've seen from Brad Fitler.

Makes you wonder why you hardly use him then.

He's thrown several cut-out passes from left to right also.

Ask Paul Cooke if he has a weaker passing game from one particular side.

Of he will have - it's natural that he will have.

But having said that, his weaker passing from that side is still way, way better than Richard Horne's on his best side.

I agree Rich Hornes strength is not the long passing game however a fully fit Rich Hornes running game blast Cookies out of the water.

Its why they were so successful as a half pairing dont you agree?
