| Quote ="cod'ead"Again a very clever use of words by The Wail:
[iIn fact, a group of Hull players had used OxyElite Pro, putting themselves at risk of failing tests for a performance-enhancing drug.
These players included Gleeson and Long as well as other international players whose identities are known to Inside Sport.
[uThey[/u have admitted in statements to UKAD that they had used OxyElite Pro while at Hull FC, albeit in the mistaken belief that it had been cleared by Cooper as 'safe'.[/i
The "they" referred to in the article could well be just Gleeson and Long. It's all in the ambiguity of the wording'"
So coddy now that Long has stated that quote"I’d been using OxyElite Pro for months, and so had other lads at the club, mistakenly, because Coops had told us it was fine."do you want to change ya mind about other Fc players on the drug now or is Long a liar ?

| Quote ="barham red"Probably not, but the precedent for this drug has been set by Gleesons banning therefore I would assume any player testing positive for this will in the future be banned. '"
I'd say the only real precedent that's been set here is don't lie to the UKDA!
Does anyone actually have any idea how long Gleeson would have been banned for had there been no lying?
Quote ="barham red"It seems very difficult for the players, should they take the word of the trained professional that what they take is ok or should they all have their own personal advisor to safeguard against this happening again.'"
They've been briefed in the past about how it's their responsibility to check substances. It concerns me that so many of our squad of allegedly not followed this.
I feel sorry for him in the fact that he believed someone that should have known better (in fact, two people if you include Long), but it is ultimately his own responsibility.
Quote ="barham red"I do agree with a dum dum, surely if you need a drug to stop you feeling tired then you must be on a slippery slope, why would a diet pill make you feel less tired, surely the whole point of diet pills is to use energy not add it.'"
You've taken it completely out of context. He's not taken a pill for this drug. He's taken a pill and not realised what's in it on the advice of his friend and "passed" by his conditioner. It's like saying your on a slippery slope because you had a cup of coffee in the morning because you were tired.
Also, I don't understand your logic behind your last point. If you don't have much energy, you're not going to be able to do the exercise necessary to burn off fat.
Quote ="barham red"Another point to bare in mind, a lot are saying these type of drugs are trivial and don't aid performance but surely if you feel knackered during a match and you take something that stops you feeling knackered then its enhancing your performance.'"
You're right, but there are different levels of performance enhancing, different times you're allowed to take them and different amounts you're allowed to take.

Look, I realise that English comprehension may be an alien subject in Pontefract but can you point to where I claimed that no other players, apart from Long & Gleeson had been using a banned (in competition) substance?
Read the words as they are written, not how you hope or even believe they are written

The more I read that, the more I think it was simple brinkmanship on Rule's part and it seemed to have paid off.

Good point that, it also goes someway to explaining Rules comment about "half the squad could be taking it", its quite possible they were totally legally. The overreaction and stirring by some sections of the media, and some fans has been asounding.
Thats not to say its not vastly embarasing for Hull and the game, (the "cover up" moreso than the incompentence/stupidity of Rule/Cooper/Gleeson), but from reading some reaction you'd think half the squad were serial steroid abusers.

Just out of interest, would taking a drink of something like "Red Bull " just before a match count as performance enhancing?

The way it has come out in dribs and drabs has meant there has been plenty of opportunity to grab the end of the stick - I've done it myself a couple of times.
I've not seen too much on other boards considering. The Hull and Rovers ones are always a bit febrile when there is mud to be slung in either direction (so pretty regularly ), so I'd replace 'astounding' with 'predictable' there.
Has Hudgell made it to full-blown demonhood on B&W yet?

Is this true? I've been trying to look into this but can't find much in detail about when you can take it and what happens if you do take it at the wrong time. Just that it got added to a list of things banned "in competition". What's the definition of "in competition"? I assumed it was during the league season, but clearly not by what you're saying.

To recap:
FC players take supplement, permissible at any time other than 12 hours before a game, having checked its legality with lazy/incompetent conditioner (just like Leeds Rhinos did, in fact).
No evidence of any players other than Gleeson being affected by supplement on matchday.
Player & conditioner get long bans.
CEO also gets just desserts.
RFL approach validated publicly (twice) by the UK anti-doping agency.
Hudgell calls for an inquiry. If [uonly[/u Rovers had finished higher, they came [uso[/u close to progressing in the play-offs.

It's clearly a principled stance to screw them for future concessions. Mason should have been allowed to play in the KC derby alongside Dobson. He had a note from the Tongan Prime Minister and probably his mum, too. But oh no, the RFL was all like 'we can't do that, we're all into integrity.'
With Gleeson, it's 'ooh, let's wait and see' and 'wouldn't it be embarrassing if poor Hull FC had to stand down half their team'. We had Mason's mug plastered everywhere, people had paid good money to watch him eat a sandwich - but that didn't quite register high enough on the red-face richter scale, apparently.

I was wondering that myself, theoretically it does aid performance as it uses a stimulant to make you have more energy. I suppose if you extrapolate that enough you'd actually ban bananas and sandwiches as well.

To be fair I think the reaction on here has been pretty mild, there hasn;t really been the lynch mob mentality out to ban FC that I would have expected. More are in agreement that the RFL are more culpable then the club. I'm actually surprised by a fair bit of the reaction on B&W about wanting Hetherington and Agar keel hauled.
I'm more exasperated by the size and vigour used by the Daily Mail, a paper that doesn't know we exist until something bad happens, going on their past performances I can see a link between FC and the death of Diana beng dragged up soon.

Only the silver it turns out. In a reversal of the logic that saw Ben Johnson stripped of his title in Seoul, you belatedly claim the gold.*

There was always the worry that it'd be more contaminating source than quarantine facility. I still call it an equivocal success. The other mods still call me a %@£*ING &$!T.
We're trying to go for more light and less heat in our discussions year.
