| Quote ="Sandra The Terrorist"I've said it before and I'll say it again.
There's a very good reason for Huddersfields poor crowds, (and to be fair, they've been building steadily until this season when everone's crowds are down, they averaged more than us last year) a champion team in the fifties and then awfully run, going bankrupt several times and nearly out of existence for the next thirty five years.
They lost at least two generations of new fans during that period and were virtually starting from scratch in the early nineties.
Most of us were either around in the early eighties or have parents that were there. I'm not from an RL family but was taken with my Mum, Dad and Sister from about the age of seven as we were a successful club. Huddersfield didn't have that.
These things take time to build, sure they're not moving as quickly as they'd like but they've probably got a decent solid following of at least four and a half thousand.
I think one thing that works against them is the size of their stadium, you don't really need a season ticket if you know you can just rock up and be guaranteed a decent seat. I'd think twice about geting a season ticket if the East Stand held six thousand and I knew I could just pick and choose my games and get in.
Also, haven't their season ticket prices reverted to normal this season?
In the past when they were heavily discounted I personally know of a previously non RL person who bought one for him and son because it was something to do together on a Sunday afternoon. That was about four seasons ago and they've renewed ever since, including this year at full price.
It's easy to sit on the sidelines and point and laugh.'" I agree with some of this but that wasn't the point I was making. Hudds have always had the rise taken out if them over their fan numbers so saying it is only because they are now good means you are either blinkered or new to RL surely.
I will say however that Huddersfield Giants are second and pushing for top spot and Huddersfield Town are hardly pulling up tree's so if not now then when?
Huddersfield always comes across as a dreary place (As does Hull to folks from elsewhere no doubt) and the Giants are a brilliant good news story in that local area and still only get 5,200 for a Monday night game?

I just feel that 5,200 in a game where they are starting to look like the real deal (Not the same as the previous seasons of real deals BTW) is poor when there isn't a lot for it to compete with.

If you're from Hull and not used to stone buildings and go when it's overcast and raining it can feel very oppressive. I went to University there and it seemed the quintessential Pogues "Dirty Old Town", but there are a lot of very unspoilt and not at all busy areas of beautiful countryside within a spit. When The Skein come and stay at mine they're constantly astounded by how hilly it is, and they break out in a sweat at the snow!
The town centres not that great and Leeds Road (where the JS is) is industrial (think Clough Road) so I can easily see that impression.
5200 isn't great, and I don't know what the answer is, god knows Uncle Ken's tried hard enough. Last season they averaged over eight thousand, unemployment is above the national average (as I'm sure it is in pretty much all northern towns and city's) and as I said, the imperative to have a season ticket at Huddersfield isn't as vital as at Rovers.
Hopefully with a decent end to the season and the economy picking up (yeah, I know) they'll be able to build back up and surpass that in years to come.

| Just as an aside, I was asked, can Huddersfield fans already holding Zebrugge Terrace tickets transfer to The Well and how do they go about that?

The season pass point is valid but that doesn't totally explain away the low numbers IMHO plus the high numbers previously are skewed in much the same way as the Bradford 10K+ was as it wasn't a fair comparison as it's not like for like.
Take Hull FC as a comparison (Yes I know the size difference 149K Vs 263K in local populations) but FC also have us and a football club that have bounced to and from and back to the premier league to compete with and they don't have the problem over selling season passes on a very similar sized stadium.
I agree that the answer is complicated and also that it isn't the fault of the current fan base but could it be possible that the local population are not interested enough to pay the going rate and will only attend regularly if they are given passes at a huge discount?

the home game before the monday night one (v saints) was 8500 (v warrington)...much better crowd, if our game isnt on a sunday at 3pm you can knock off a 1-2k.. alot of familys and youngsters come to our games now.
and if its on sky or raining well you can knock a few off for that too!! very annoying but thats just how it is with some of our so called fans.
shame really... football is king in hudds too im afraid.

Fair enough and just to clarify I'm not having a dig I just wonder what more can be done to bring and keep them in.
Also why on earth would football be king when it's a team that scraped Championship survival?

3 Championships in a row (top 3, 6 years in a row) is quite a legacy even if it was 90 years ago. Especially for a team called 'town'. Stayed in the top flight until 50s. Plus football is just bigger.

Lunt Robbo grix and brough are working brilliantly together. Our left hand side of wardle and ferres have been good in attack and defence- but if you try out right you will run into the brick wall of lawrence and cudjoe.
Your hope is to hit our forwards and offload whenever possible. Weakest spot defensively is McGilvray!
You will note that our "purple patches" were early on then we took off our entire first choice pack which allowed saints to get back in the game- we were saving ourselves for KR.'"

| That was a game & a half, unexpected as well. Feared the worst at 10-22, especially with Ta'ai terrorising our left edge. Not sure what happened with Travis in the corner early 2nd half but he revved the side up no end after that, his best performance for us by a mile. Thought Greg Eden was outstanding as well.

Since Greg was dropped the week prior to the derby he's been immense. Even in the derby he was great. Brown made great yards and Patterson now his suspension is over will find his spot taken by Lovegrove who's made that position his own.
Patterson maybe going to 13 as surely Lovegrove can't be moved the guys been a revelation in that position.

Paterson should not get that spot back, lovegrove would be wasted playing anywhere else for me now. Paterson with his ball handling could adapt well to 13. So yea for me he either goes to 13 or goes to the otherside with Gleeson/salter?

| Think Cox has had a great couple of games aswell and Horne had a good game at the right second row so could be hard for Paterson to even get in their! Although I think Horne picked up a knock to his knee\thigh so maybe out injured! Very tough game next up with Catalans and saints away from home! Saints will want to do a job on us aswell as they're near us in the league and have been easily beaten in both occasions this year!
