| Quote ="Mild Rover"Didn't Hull look gorgeous in 1903...

We have more freedom, money and knowledge than our greatgrandparents - how come we've ended up with so much less dignity? Willfully ignoring the endemic domestic violence and even more entrenched class system, of course. Leisurewear, plastics and fast-food have a lot to answer for. Consumer society scunners me sometimes.
I have nothing to do with this company, btw.

Nice pictures but I think you need to take your rose tinted historical glasses off.
My grandma was born in 1910 and raised down Hessle Road, her father died when she was about six, lost at sea and her mother remarried a drunken alcoholic brute. They never had enough food and lived in slum housing, she suffered with malnutrition, by the age of thirteen she had TB. The abusive stepfather eventually committed suicide and her mother remarried, at fifteen the new step father threw her and her younger brother out and she went to work in the Needlers sweet factory to support them.
She met my granddad and things were better but still I suspect tough, although normal to them she led a fairly normal life from there on in and died in 1987.
I doubt her experiences were at all unusual.
My point is, that away from the offices of the big shipping lines and fishing companies responsible for some of the beautiful architecture I would say life was very much worse for your average citizen in terms of social and economic opportunity than now.
Preston Road is well known as one of the most disadvantaged areas of the city but has recently seen the opening of what looks a very nice school, the opportunities are there to be taken, yes, it might be hard, but at least they're there.
I'm generalising an awful lot and I admit to having little knowledge about Hulls current climite as i haven't lived there for a long time, but you get the gist.

You asked the question, and if you're accusing me of having a binary world view then how very dare you Sir, how very dare you.

Can't say I've ever seen one, we have a very angry Robin. He's great, he terrorises the Guinea Pigs if they're out.

| My Bike to Work voucher finally came through and I've GOT MY BIKE! IT'S ACE! I've been playing on it this afternoon and I'm going to ride to work on it tomorrow if it's not raining.
Took Marfa and Sandra's advice and got a hybrid. Was a bit scared I might fall off because I haven't ridden bike for about 20 years, but it really is like "riding a bike..."
It's a Specialized ladies black Globe:
...but I've got mudguards and a rear basket on mine. It's very beautiful.

Looks a very nice bike that, I keep toying with getting one but I don't really want any more hobbies that I can't do with Ms. Terrorist and there's no way I'm going cycling with her.
The only time I've seen her on a bike was in San Francisco when we hired bikes with our friends. Ms. Terrorist could understand gears at all, the one hill of any size that we went up lead up to the Golden Gate bridge, in the end the quickest way to get her up was for me to ride to the top, leave my bike, run down and then ride Ms. Terrorists bike whilst she walked.
It was ridiculous, mind you, I then got knocked off my bike by a taxi so i wasn't a whole lot more proficient.

It's a bit cooler here, only 25. Might have to put my cardigan on soon.

| Had a dream last night that Mr BH dumped me for Stacey Slater, he told me to leave our apartment, (It was our first place together) because she was moving in, he even told me to leave her my wedding dress. Needless to say when I spoke to him on the phone this morning he got it with both barrels. The cheeky sod put in a request for someone a bit fitter next time.

| I know we don't [ireally[/i talk rugby on here but the hilarity over on The Wrong Side Of The Chocolate Rivers Tributary is too funny not to mention.
There is a serious issue here though, won't somebody think of the children? This is a family friendly forum with no flipping swearing or talk of naughtiness of any ilk. So with a thanks to the very responsible Chris28, an esteemd moderator form over there, I'm happy to say that I have forwarded this piece of advice to the UKBA at Manchester airport ready for Mr. Seymour's imminent arrival.
Quote ="Chris28"Oh dear oh dear.
My [uassumption[/u on this is:
He already has his visa, based on the facts as they were when he applied because he's due to travel shortly.
Given that, according to the report, this only happened last week, it counts as a change of circumstances which he MUST declare (or risk refusal of entry, removal on arrival and a future ban from the UK) under para 320 (7A) (a material fact related to the visa situation) and 320 (icon_cool.gif (failure to furnish information required to decide if he qualifies for entry on arrival). Or 321 (ii) (change of circumstances removing basis for entry). Or 321(A)(1) (such a change of circumstances as to mean the visa should be cancelled).
The fact that the case has aggravating factors (twice the limit, failing to stop) and the sentence ($950 fine plus costs and a 7 month driving ban) really doesn't help either.
If, however, he doesn't have the visa, the chances of getting it have been reduced significantly. Again he needs to declare what's happened.
This is not a good situation for him or the club to be in. At all.
Hopefully they are taking full advice on what they and he should do, and notifying anyone who needs to be notified.
Problem is, if they tell, it risks refusal. If they don't it risks refusal.
Potentially way, way worse than Crocker IMO.
(My consultancy bill is in the post
