| Quote ="Big Dave T"Sorry, not worded clearly. What would be the impact in the local area if they didnt have this facility?
The way that i would be approaching this project from a local authority point of view would be to look at the benefit that the local area would get versus cash spent and then see whether the development is classed as essential currently or whether it's just 'nice to have'
All non-essential builds should be stopped currently imo. Is this really essential is what i'm trying to say based on the local impact on the area of having an NHS centre?'"
It is difficult for me to look at this in an unbiassed way. Just assume I've written my usual one-eyed logic-twisting, partisan nonsense. I need to go find a sock!

I guess publicly moaning about been poverty stricken and the support of a prominent member of the house of lords really is the way to do business then!!

| Great that you are finally getting a new stand but I echo whats already been said on here about the economic climate at the moment. My husband will be pleased that he has a 2 year pay freeze and the threat of redundancy hanging over his head but the Council are using £4.2m of public money that could possibly save some redundancies and give HCC workers their 2% cost of living rise for this year. Its just been reported on Look North that the Council need to save so many million this year and it has been suggested that Hull Truck may have to close and Museums will only open 3 days a week. The new plans for Orchard Park have also been shelved which admittidly is Central Government but there are going to be some very angry Hull Citizens over the spending on your stand.
Not a case of sour grapes or jealously by the way, just don't think now is the right time for the Council to be spending that sort of money.

My Wife also works for the council, she is also under threat of redundancy, and subject to a pay freeze. However, she is over the moon with this news, and would gladly lose her job as a small sacrifice to ensure the future of Hull Kingston Rovers.
A real trooper is my wife!

Actually I'm quite pleased about it. Should finally put paid to all this 'we make our own way with no handouts' bollox that gets regularly spouted by Rovers fans.

Exactly. I don't think Rovers playing in West Hull was given any serious thought, and quite right too. Clubs struggle out of their heartland, it will be interesting to see how St Helens cope gatewise in 2011, and also how Huddersfields crowd holds up for the 3 games at the Shay in June/July.

Surely theres a flip side to the arguement that it will generate work for builders, electricians and the associated infrastructure. Once the 'hub' is in place it will also generate jobs and investment in the city.

It's a decent point. You could also argue that things like Yorkshire Forward and other iniatives that are been stopped to save money also bring the same benefits to the area.

Wasn't that the role of Yorkshire Forward?
The "hub" is a load of bollox. It's free operational infrastructure for a private limited company that the council have bailed once already by buying back NCP and which is not a going concern without directors underwriting it's losses. See the handout for what it is. Fantastic negotiation all round to get £4m of your money into a facility that in reality will be used for 30 odd hours a year. Enterprise hub my @rse.

Except you choose not to include the FACT that this is no handout, its being repaid, like a mortgae, over 30 years, along with partners in the project like Sirius and the University of Hull and Hull Adult Education and Hull Training etc.
So once again the "handout" stays firmly with yourselves.

Where did you get that info from? The article states that the council will meet 4.2m of the bill but will look to reduce that through euro funding.
If it is a loan as you suggest then what kind of favourable agreement will that loan cover? That in itself is still a handout. I'm yet to see evidence though that this is a loan and not a grant.

I hope it is a grant and not a loan. I would prefer to see my fellow Rovers fans take a bit of banter/stick rather than have the club saddled with more debt!

| this would have been great news if it was done at the Boulevard back in the day, but i guess that as its happening across the city the green eyed monsters all come out.
maybe the NHS dont want to build a new building and find it more convienent/cheaper to use as existing facility for there centre?
Anyone who doesnt like the idea of this money being spent in this way should take it up with the NHS, not Rovers.
