| Our fears of not having a pack are coming home to roost now, as has been said even with Walker, Allgood and Tilse in I'm not sure its a dominant pack. We lack any real impact and grunt in the pack and this needs to be a major area looked at in the off season.
I said from the off that there was such a mismatch in terms of size on the wing with Ollet, Sio (never a centre and should never play there for me) and Dixon defending against Minicello, Yeaman and Talanoa. If Goulding (or Salter) and Horne play then it stiffens that edge up no end. Not sure what other options we had but it was doomed down there as long as Hull were smart enough to go to it and they did.
Watched it back and there was still a bit of spirit shown by our lads but it was never going to be good enough on the day.
Enjoyed the place though. Far better than Manchester and Edinburgh and nearer than Cardiff so should be the go to place next year.

Absolutely, nice and accessible and lots to do away from the rugby, and what a great stadium.

Agree with that, Dixon/Talanoa was a miss match but very little we could do except play Dixon at fullback & maybe Salter on the wing, Our only hope would have been out & out attack & repeat sets but for that to happen FC would have to make a shed load of mistakes but they had a great day. Just have to dust down & get set for Friday.

| I know it's easy to sometimes over simplify things, but I couldn't help to think big basics were the differences between the sides
Hull's forwards were running on to the ball, resulting in winning the ruck/play of the ball and then repeat. No messing, just bang, bang and go again. The platform was set.
Line speed - far superior to ours - they were on us before we knew what we were going to do. We had (have) no idea how to exit our own 20 if it doesn't involve outflanking the opposition. Hull and Leeds have shown us in recent weeks how to do this. I know we're down on grunt, but we simply don't do enough down the middle to build a platform, whoever is playing.
If Hull weren't scoring, a good kicking game just finished us. It was pretty obvious to see, that breaks/scraps/piggybacks aside, we were struggling to go anywhere too often.
Naturally as Hull's dominance grew throughout the game, every simple facet was extenuated further.
A lot has been made of our front row woes, but right across the park we were trampled by Hull. We failed to drop or contain any of their props. Ellis/Minichiello ran over us. Leaving so much time for Pryce/Sneyd/Houghton to dictate matters. There was no quick fix within our ranks to our problems on Sat, and unfortunately Hull's handling early on was pretty good. Whilst our early errors compounded our struggles. Credit to our lads for sticking with it, but we were comprehensively battered really. Fair play to Hull, they were excellent. The scoreline didn't at all flatter them.
Top 8 is starting to drift a bit and our negative points difference is also starting to mount. Cas on Friday is looking like a must win game, if we're looking upwards and not down.

| Agree with above posts. But in fairness you where you where missing our front row. Would it have made a difference a bit yes IMO but not the result. I did notice when both teams where stood waiting to come out we looked massive compared to you guys. Allin all a gud win for us but think you will come back and be in the mix for top 8 but only if you can get your big guys back

Agreed
Even at full strength our pack simply isn't big enough.
We need a pair of big bustling back rowers who can step up to front row if needed.
This may be an unpopular opinion but Horne and larroyer should be fringe/ interchange at best.

| Quote ="Hessle rover"At least the chance of playing against Carney is very minimal now. But as a few have said on here. June is THE month that we have perform, no if's or but's.
Ive never known us be so injured, and all long term, all at the same time. Is this just really bad luck??
Listening to Chester's interview after the game. There's a chance Salter, Kelly and Lunt might be good to go. :2zs3vwjiBut how :2zs3vwji:2zs3vwjimany times we heard that before.[/
At least half dozen. These three along with Burke were touted to be playing all last week by Mrs Barista in the derby thread on the forum above

I don't think our props are the problem, IMO it's the backrow that's too small and weak. Larroyer doesn't run hard, Cox just doesn't get the game time, Ollets to small,

| We were dominated and out played which nobody could disagree with and i know the club don't like to use the injury excuse but if you put down our injuries and FCs like for like
Allgood = watts
Walker = paea
tilse = green
lunt = Houghton
Kelly = sneyd
Burke = feka
goulding/Salter = sa
So if hull had watts paea green houghton sneyd feka and sa missing Vs our strongest 17 i think we would of had a bigger field day

| That was horrible.
Lots of things have been rightly highlighted. A step too far for our young forwards.
Minichello destroyed Ollett. Cox needs an attitude transplant. I think playing with the big boys is beyond him. Green has all the ability just needs some fire in his belly if he wants to be a decent prop. Time for him to p#ss or get off the potty from now on for me.
The problem has been and continues to be the ruck. We can't win it. Allgood Tilse and Walker can. The rest struggle. Our markers are on the floor too often. Opposition play the balls too fast. This is why we go backwards and get less yards each game. Our play the balls are much slower and we can't scoot from the play the ball as their markers are set.
Line speed is a red herring as teams vary this through out a game.
Why the f#ck on the 6th tackle in attack and defence can't Sio and Dixon swap places so Sio attacks and defends kicks as the winger. Seen other teams do this. Why can't our coaches advocate this? Sio caught one kick and ran it back for a try.
Love McCarthy´s effort but he needs help in the back row.
Unless he was injured Blair's effort on Saturday was awful.
Massive month ahead. We have the players to get us in the eight if we can get them on the pitch.
Allgood has been a huge loss.

It wasn't unrealistic and to an extent I agree that take that many players out of any side and they'd struggle. But it was a bit pointless, the real arguement for me is how would we have gone at full strength in that game and I still think we'd have struggled purely down to our lack of any real size throughout the team.
At full strength us and FC are pretty matched both playing to there potential I think its an even contest. Now us against the top 4 sides at full strength and playing well I think we lose them all.

I suppose the injuries are what they are and there is nothing anybody can do about it but with half our squad in the stands until we get them back and a bit of confidence we probably won't see what this team can do, but we have knocked Wigan out the CC we was the 1st team to beat saints so there is plenty of positives but a lot of negatives as well like size as you say and our defence doesn't seem to be getting any better

For me its the wrong type of size, at 6'4" 17 stone isn't bulky in fact its quite light, we need more the Mick Weyman type of prop who can really punch holes

| I'd like to see an impact prop, a hole not filled since Micky Paea departed. It wouldn't be the area I would look to as a priority tho' ... either finding a replacement for Lunt or working a deal for Lunt for me (subj. to extent of injury)

| Well,Allgood,Walker,Green,Cox and Tilse all have the height so would they want them to put on 1 to 2 stone and be like Alex Walmsley at Saints .
I suppose it depends on the shape and style of player Chris Chester wants in his team.
The other player over 6,4 is Tony Puleteau.
