Rugby League is pantomime for the summer. Anybody who takes it more seriously than that, well shouldn't, to put it poloitely. IMO, of course.

The number of KuH people who are depressed or embarrassed by their club, and pay good money for the privilege, is shocking.

I can see why some people would lap those sort of comments up, but I don't see the need for it tbh.

I wouldn't say Hudge was an embarrassment to the club, he's a living legend for the work he's put in to get us where we are today, but if he's got some issues with the powers that be in regards to how both clubs are, and have been treated, he should be taking it up with them and not broadcasting it in public.

The general interest in the sport in this city has increased a lot since we got to superleague and both clubs benefit from the rivalry. Despite the best efforts of these forums, Hull and Rovers fans co-exist in the real world without a great deal of bad feeling, so those at the top should not be stoking the flames of animosity.

Agreed and look where that got us. If you are not concerned by the finances at Rovers you are burying your head in the sand.

I wish I was as "unprofessional" as him, setting up his own firm less than 12 years ago, and now with enough people working for him to allow him to devote more time to his passion.

I must admit that it is a slight concern, but your comment that Hudgell is "unprofessional" is without any real back up, in sport he has taken a team from near closure to the best league in Europe and in his personal life runs a successful law practice. I wish i could be that unprofessional.

I think your both mixing up business acumen and expertise with unprofessional. He's unprofessional in his attitude, the way he conducts himself and the way he portrays your club.

He has gambled the future of the club IMO. You will seriously need to increase revenue to even start clawing back the money you owe. Look at how long its taken FC to start reducing its debt and we are a much bigger club with much bigger revenue streams. Thats not a dig by the way you are clearly the better team at the moment but we are talking about the actual club. You only have to look at the likes of Saints who get bigger crowds then you and receive loads of prize money yet continue to make a loss to see how difficult it is going to be for Rovers to even break even in the near future. IMO (I may well be wrong) but he has been letting his heart rule his head in a desire to get Rovers as competitive as possible as quickly as possible. Maybe it will pay off in the long run but I cant really see how at the moment.

You are perfectly entitled to your opinion, however mis-guided it may be. An alternative way to look at this would be that if he had just come in and steadied the ship we would have all but dissapeared by now, as we would have missed out on a Franchise and another generation of support would have passed the club by.

He's merely provided the city with a vibrant RL scene, as can clearly be seen by the upsurge in attendences at both clubs since 2006. Without us, you would most probably still be averaging about 10k. Whether you like it or not, having a rival around polarises support and gets people out of their armchairs and into the stadiums.

And you have "selective" knowledge of his actions as Chairman of HKR. As I said at the very top of this thread, I think he has confused opinions of some fans with that of the club they support, however, NH will always receive my 100% support and gratitude for rescuing my club. Other clubs can only dream of having such leadership.

Fair points. All I will say is that IMO you have tried to grow too quickly and it could cost you. Time will tell I suppose and it would be a shame as I enjoy having Rovers in SL despite what I may say on this forum

Correct and pretty much all of my knowledge of him as HKR chairman points to him being unprofessional in that capacity. It may well be wrong but thats the impression I have of him.

He had to gamble though really - a conservative approach wouldn't have got to us to where we are. Conservatism can be a gamble in itself - that is the underlying thrust of a lot of posts on your board, IMO. Now the challenge is to make a go of where we are. As you say, even Saints don't make money - RL is not a place to build a fortune, I fear. Saints recently turned debt into shares, such is the commitment of their backers. Rovers board has a good record in that respect too, but new revenue will have to be found sooner of later - SL is the place to find it at least. Failing that, maybe we can just trundle along as an East Yorkshire version of Wakefield - I'd have taken that 4 or even 3 years ago. Its possible that Rovers aren't viable as a SL team long-term, but with crowds of 8K, I think we should be able to get by. The headline loss figure is only part of the story of the accounts - how much of that is down to one off payments for capital investment (floodlights, east stand extension etc)? While losses were steady, turnover was up, so the business (as well as the debt), is growing.
