What do you think?
[size=85(Your "Chippingdale" should have inverted commas, btw.)[/size'"
There's no reason to roll your eyes, I'm not being argumentative, I actually really like your points of view.
You'll have to explain your "Chippingdale" dig, I'm a bit thick today.
It's been quite tense, I spent about an hour and a half discussing issues with someone whose on the autistic spectrum before I realised that the error of my ways was that I was trying my brains logic to an autistic persons logic.
I was more or less saying "stop being autistic and you'll understand". Doh!

| Why is it necessary that a floorcovering can withstand a wheelchair being rolled back and forth?
Laminate flooring, much as [iyou [/ihate it, in some instances is much better than what it's replicating. For instance, Its waterproof, doesn't scratch or chip, easy to heat, easy to clean & maintain, furniture doesn't damage it by being sat on it or by being moved about on it, it's cheaper and it's easy to change when you get bored of it.
Lino has some of the above properties, it's certainly cheap and easy to change, doesn't like furniture sat on it or moved about on it, though.

My God. Just do the thing properly or don't do it at all.
If you want to put lino down, don't buy some that tries to look like something else.

It was me that put that clause in, because that the house that we're renovating/adapting for Ms. Terrorists brother needs that because he's a twenty stone bloke in a wheelchair!
We're getting stuff that's even tougher than the toughest laminate because he'll be coming straight off the street in his chair and into the house. You can get some really nice stuf. Although it's all really dishonest I'm afraid.

Dishonest or modern?
Laminate is specifically designed to give you the fundamental properties you would require from a floor, whilst still giving you a large choice of design, you can have a parquay floor without having to varnish it every year.
Alike kitchen worktops which almost all households have.

Not rolling eyes at you, as such, merely raising them to heaven at the thought of veneered reproduction "Chippendale".
Chippendale was renowned for his solid wood furniture - mainly mahogany - which could accommodate his elaborate carvings and rarely used veneering, and only for decorative marquetry.
Most reproduction Chippendale-style furniture used veneered mahogany and other woods for obvious cost reasons. I was suggesting the inverted commas to indicate you meant 'reproduction Chippendale-style' - I'm assuming that [iis[/i what you meant?

Well, I wouldn't have it in my kitchen (I have the original Victorian quarry tiles). But I can see it might look nice in a modernized or modern house and why some people would like it.
I wasn't using it as an example of what I liked - merely to illustrate an example of lino not being used to represent wood, stone, tiles or any other original medium.
The only point I'm making is if you want a wooden floor, polish the floorboards. It you want a stone floor, use, errm, stone.
Not some plasticky, pretend substitute.
If you want lino, laminate or Amtico, then great. But get a pattern that doesn't try to be something it isn't.
Mr Worm used to screed floors. That was aesthetically pleasing, tough and uncompromising. It didn't look like plastic planks, though.

| Laminate is tougher than a polished floorboard and [ican[/i look alot nicer, I see where your coming from but your wrong on this, the whole point and idea of laminate is a success. I also believe that if you were to put tiles in an upstairs bathroom, as most people would want, you are stupid. They become loose no matter how good you are at laying them and present great difficulty of getting under the floor to, say, repair a leak. Lino, with a tile effect or even laminate, which now is available in tile effect would be more suitable.
They do something that may appease you, actual tiles fixed onto laminate boards, the idea is that you can lay your 'tiles' evenly spaced and perfectly even, when your happy, you grout the lot, quite clever.

How can I be "wrong"? It's not a matter of being right or wrong, it's an opinion. Like saying wallpaper is wrong and panelling is right. Personal taste and all that.
I wouldn't dream of having a tiled bathroom floor. More polished wood, so you needn't try to 'appease' me. .

| Laminate in bathrooms? Sounds frought with danger to me. You'd have to allow expansion gaps around the toilet and wash basin etc and that wouldnt look great. I assume it would be rather slippy, too.

Don't have that particular problem in my bathroom, we have one of those sink units and the toilet is wall hung, I'd assume it would just be silicone'd in the same way tiles or lino would be.
Also, believe it or not, there is bathroom laminate out there that doesn't turn into an ice rink when wet.

You said it, silly goose.
I was feeling a bit evil last night. Leeds winning put me out of sorts. I don't like them very much, and wonder very much if Gary's glass coffee table has a lot of milk spilt on it.
I'm sorry, dum-dum. Your wall mounted lavatory sounds splendid - what pattern laminate do you have under it?
