| Carney "hobbling off" according to the HDM, don,t like the sound of that. Hope it,s nothing much, but we can,t afford to be losing our better players now. Missed any commentary, what,s up with Tomkins and Lee?

| I hope Carney does not get another contract with us he’s far to injury prone as good as he is on the pitch I’d rather see the over seas spot used some where else

Harsh.
He’s been rushed back to help the team and deserves more respect. However this probably tilts his mind further towards retirement at the end of the season.
When he’s played he has been top class for us this season, and having met the bloke I can confirm he is a genuinely decent kid.

| Awful game in suffocating conditions.
Justin Carney looks like 4 weeks off again. Lee injured during warm up Tomkins a late withdrawal.
We won and although the top 8 remains unlikely Salford need a miracle to catch us now so at least 4 home games in the qualifiers. Today was a timely reminder that any away game can be difficult that extra home game could be so important. Ourselves and Leigh are the only super 8 relegated teams both with just 3 home games.
I'm old enough to remember the start of Super League everyone played night matches during June/July/August to avoid the heat we haven't had a summer worthy of the name since so that was forgotten. This game was a reminder. It really would have been a higher quality game in cooler conditions.
Four Super League games unbeaten though, just 2 more to beat the record of Justin Morgan's 2009 top 4 team.

Played the best side in the comp with a team half filled with kids. Pretty amazing we were winning with about 20 to go but they ran out of steam

See this is where I think F.C (and some other S.L teams) are coming unstuck. It was O.K for F.C to sign the likes of Kearney, Swain, Berrigan, Fitzgibbon, Sing, Blacklock and other oversees players who played 20+ caps for Australia because they were able to supplement the squad with GENUINE quality academy players who were on relative peanuts compared to the above mentioned (according to Josh Hodgson's recent article), players like Yeaman, Houghton, Washbrook, Cooke, Rich and Graeme Horne, Scott Wheeldon, Paul King etc.
If you compare to todays F.C squad list, barring Shaul (who is 26 now so not a youth) the gulf in difference is huge, they have nowhere near the quality to suppliment the huge earners in the squad.
Rovers had a lot of caching up to do from promotion in 2007, and i think we have more or less caught up with the majority of Super League in creating a conveyor belt for kids. We still need more in my opinion, but from what my 15 year old neigbour tells me Castleford are signing the cream of the crop in the East Riding district.

I guess when your first choice 17 isn't particularly good then you won't see much of a difference when you bring the reserves in but that's what you need to do to compete at the top of SL rather than scramble for survival at the bottom

Dunno. It's worked pretty well the last couple of years. What do the current top 4 have when they lose key men? I'd say Hull have coped remarkably well but the last few weeks have caught up with us. It's not just about the players missing but those who take the field carrying injuries. kelly clearly isn't right and taylor is completely busted but still puts his hand up every week. These players wouldn't be playing if we had a near fit squad.
This season has seen a freakish number of lengthy injuries to key players so I'm just glad we're not scrapping for our lives in those middle 8's

I agree Jake you have coped well and to be still in contention is a great achievement but maybe you should tell some of the other Hull fans who seem to think this season is a disaster it shows how short some memories are it wasn’t that long ago Agar was taking you to the dizzy heights of 11th place

Too right. We need to dust ourselves down, have a decent 8's when we get some players back and look to next season

| Hull have won 11 Super League games and lost 10.
16 points short from 1st, 3 points better than 8th and a real relegation scrap.
Would I swap places? Yes. Is it a wonderful achievement? No.
To their credit they put in a really good performance at St Helens in the cup and were unlucky not to win they certainly defended the trophy exceptionally well.
Under Radford Hull have bottle, week in week out not so good yes injuries have played their part just like Rovers, Leeds, Widnes, Castleford....I'll stop here and say every team apart from St Helens. They assume they'll be luckier next year..we have made that mistake ourselves.
IMO the gap between the Hull clubs is narrowing, still there but narrowing. Even many of our own fans don't seem to have noticed but the key events happen and the fruit bears later. Thanks to the current system we are 9 points better than the bottom club with 2 fixtures remaining....but they can still stay up and we can still go down. Rovers are battling a system where the only thing that matters is drama.
I think that this drama at all costs system skews people's outlook, as a promoted club we are going to finish above at least 2 established SL clubs and IMO that should be enough. Get through this and the future looks good. Hull have reverted to type blaming injuries and referees.

| Us Castleford Leeds Widnes spring to mind pretty much all season? Yours seem to have been last 2/3rds of season? Snide being long term has been the main problem id reckon? Then the in form Griffin n Connor get Crocked.Far from ideal and throw in other injuries to Shaul Kelly Houghton and it has been tough on a squad without Watts Ellis Fonua who were real quality. Tough times indeed but I still reckon yourselves and the 4 clubs iv mentioned have had it as bad as each other? Dont believe everything Smailes writes.
