I find it amusing that someone can be so immune from even polite criticism. I reckon if some of you caught him in bed with your wives, you'd polish his shoes while you waited for him to finish.

Hudgell has made some appointments that with hindsight have been poor.

On balance as far as the Hull Kingston Rovers club is concerned he rescued us from at worst, death and at best, at the time, perpetual lower league survival.

2006 and 2007 where massive for us, and most of that is down to Hudgell.

If we hadn't got up and stayed up I don't think we'd have done it for another generation at least, if ever.

Well no, but you understand that he's held in high esteem by (most) Rovers fans and why though, surely? He's not infallible, but he's brought us to a point that we're properly down in the mouth about being 9th in SL. Yeah, there's an element of propaganda to these things (the q&a) but all clubs do it, and with good reason.

I'm sure fans of other clubs would bristle at criticism of their well-regarded figures from fans of their rivals. I have seen it happen in fact!

What exactly do you think, and denying yourself the benefit of hindsight, ( because he has undoubtedly made mistakes) he should have done differently at specific times to make Rivers a better and stronger club?

And remember, you're denied the benefit of hindsight.

It's hard to be objective about your own club, I'd agree. But to focus on the negatives would be
A. Churlish, given recent history
B. No fun

It's also perhaps hard to be objective about your rivals and that might similarly cloud opinions, is it fair to say?

I think everything was pretty much bob on through the Morgan era. Even where the board are self-critical about the balance of investment in first team vs developing players, I think top-down worked in getting us established.
I was always nervous about the move towards 'youth' and 'potential' in 2012 - I hoped it'd come good, but could see issues with the 'it works for Saints, Leeds and Wigan' argument even making optimistic assumptions about where our infrastructure was at. The idea that Sandercock could scale up his success with Uate across a squad with many talented but erratic players, was always going to be a big ask. I also think he was perhaps asked to do too much - sorting out our youth structures and the first team.
That, trying to be as honest as I can be, is without hindsight.

You've got to remember that I only questioned his bemoaning year on year of poor performances and that he likes to (imo) use lines like 'the players should match the attitude of the fans' knowing full well that the fans hold him in such high regard, thus deflecting any (not saying there is or isn't) blame away from himself. I think that is detrimental to the unity of the squad, again imo.

I would never be so bold as to suggest ways he should run his club.

Sorry, I thought it was a genuine question on punctuation. Having re-read L&I's post, I perhaps misunderstood him, although you can understand why I'd think his question was a genuine one!

1865 has some reasonable points.

As he points out the leadership has never owned up to any accountability at all..its always someone else..that someone else being someone the leadership has in fact taken a decision to appoint...and in some cases spent a lot of the clubs money appointing them...

And whilst the chairman has indeed supported the club magnificently in a financial respect , as his main commercial interest relies heavily on advertising and buying in business ,he has not done bad out of the deal himself...

We are now ruing poor decisions taken by the leadership several years ago and it may be that we are on the way back down the mountain...

There has no doubt been some element of fiddling while Rome burns and there can be no deflecting that responsibility at all.

Has the club or the BOD wronged you in some way Voltaire? You never have anything good to say about them. You almost sound like the Rovers version of Standee.

I think if you read the post correctly you will see i note the chairman's backing of the club in a "good" manner.

However, if Rovers is truly about the fans as the chairman is fond of saying, then there should be an element of accountability, the chairman took a deliberate decision to end this accountability when buying up the majority of shares and ceasing AGMS and so forth...no shareholder aside from the gang of three has any say at all now. So therefore the entire buck stops there, there is no skirting round this.

They have gotten some major decisions wrong over the last few years in my opinion , an open discussion might make future decisions better. There is nothing wrong with supporters questioning whether their leadership and decision makers are on the right track especially when they have very little RL experience between them and are, for example , easily suckered in by known con-artists.

You are right Voltaire. We as fans should be able to question decisions that are made about our club. However, you seem very negative in most of your posts about the BOD and HKR hence my question.

Hudge does get leeway from rovers fans mainly because we see were he dragged us from stood in a crap ground with a dog track and a speedway track round it watching local amateur and ex Hull fc players making up the side to been an established super league side and doing it with a lot of his own money I don't expect Hull fans to understand why he's held In high regard because it's not your club but I don't think rovers fans will forget
