I can’t remember Matt Smith, James Peacock, Eorl Crabtree, Danny Brough, or Danny McGuire saying Welham shouldn’t have been sent to Gateshead but I do remember them saying what a good player Kris Keating is. Quite a number of pundits who have played the game have the same opinion on him.

1 players aren't going to slag other players off and 2 just because players have played the game doesn't mean there knowledgeable about it I'm prepared to give Keating the benefit of the doubt this season but there's no getting away from the fact he's been poor and his kicking has been terrible

The consumate pro's you name would never say in an interview "oh yeah their 7 was garbage today" so that doesnt convince me at all. To your second point I have heard a few pundits say Keating is pretty bang average, apparently Humberside this weekend said Rovers could get any 17 year old from Longhill to do what he has done today, I am paraphrasing as i didnt listen to their commentary my better half text me what they said. I just dont think he is any better than Craig Hall or Matty Beharrel and im guessing theyre on a fraction of his wage, for what its worth I think he could be a decent hooker so im not rubbishing the guy I just think he is a very poor scrum half.

I agree the players you mention would not say that in an after match interview. The players I quoted made their comments about Keating whilst appearing as guests on The Super League show etc and talking about matches they weren’t involved in. The comment on Humberside was made by Lee Richardson who very rarely has anything positive to say about Rovers.

Involved or not they just wouldnt rubbish another pro and Im pretty sure all the remaining radio humberside crew are fairly pro rovers after doc was removed Im sure it was Lee (the ex rovers player) who said any 17 y.o from Longhill could do what hes done tonite anyway I will trust what I have seen myself and that is ive not seen him have a great game and Ive not seen him have too many good ones. His tackling is good but thats about no 75 on my skills I want my halfback to have list anyway you clearly think he is pretty good I dont. Love to be wrong but he wont make it for me.

While at London next week Rovers should sign up Josh Drinkwater.
Certainly can't be any worse than Keating.

If Mike Smith did due diligence on this guy and is now in Aus signing others I fear for us.

While it's pretty hard to defend Keatings performances so far, I lost count of the times today he was running along our line offering the ball up but there were no runners making themselves available for him. same thing happened to Burns too, but the difference is he then tries to make something happen himself, where Keating doesn't have that spark, but the missing runners need to take some of the blame for his poor showing.

Agree,total lack of effort from players running on to the ball, twice keating got tackled waiting for runners.Not defending him at all,but the pack was poor today and didnt help either halfback.
Keating must take the line on more,1st few matches he did,and scored 4 tries,but since then hasn't,why ?

Good half-backs impose themselves. Keating hasn't. He put a nice grubber in late in the 1st half but nobody chased. Nobody seemed to know the play was on. Is there any communication out there?
His lack of authority when Burns went off was noticable.

It took St Helens a season to realise jonny lomax was,nt a halfback...Ditto. Think he might be worth trying at hooker if what we here that josh is going to the Nrl. The guys defence is ok but he,s definitely not a halfback, you cant coach craft, its a gift and he aint got it. He throws a good pass and I think he might make a few yards from dummy half. Try it, we have,nt got anything to lose now.

the sad thing is that if Burns gets banned this clown will be the one leading us around the field ans we've seen that he's not upto it. some tough games coming up now.

Interesting point about lack of runners. Not the first time this season either. However Hall scored 1 and gifted 1, nett result 0. Caro was put under pressure but handled most of it well, and can't see how he didn't ground the ball. Burns did us no favours. His constant back chatting to the ref has to be curbed and you could see he was boiling over, a clear 10 minutes before the sin bin incident. As for our scrum half - Klueless Keating.

Craig Hall proved why he can never be relied upon to have a steady game, So up and down its unbelievable. He Never gifted them 1 try it was 2 directly by giving the ball to the oppo + some shocking last man defence which caused more. Caro did ok apart from the fumble for the try (didn't see it too clearly but looked like he tried to scoop it up rather than grounding it).

Keating is an odd one, I was calling him something rotten at the game but in hindsight and taking the no runners comment on board the it makes you wonder what has been practiced (if anything) in training. IF and it is an IF there where set moves with runners suposed to be there and Keating ran the play then is it clueless keating or clueless team. I noticed a number of times as he ran across the line he looked furious with his team mates after he'd been tackled. The kick through he did that wasn't chased!!! it does make you wonder.

Keating's played second fiddle all year to Burns. However, when he does receive the ball, all I've seen is an inside pass/pop up to a forward. The only times he's looked any decent is his show/go close to the line. Resulted in most of his tries I'd imagine. With Burns in the bin, it was pretty obvious he had no options, but I'm still sure he was looking for an inside pass. His kicking too has been rank average all year. But has at least improved in the last few games (no longer pin point accuracy to waiting opposition backs). Our kick chase however, hasn't.

Salford looked to attack Caro's wing in the first half. With better handling I'm sure they'd have scored more. I like him, but at times he just looks all too easily exposed. He did drop a few catches too. His knock on/try was pretty bad. He didn't look to give himself much of a chance, such was his speed attacking the ball. Hard to call, with one view. But I sided with Child. With the new rule about deliberately grounding the ball, he didn't convince me he was trying to ground it/or achieved it. We'd more or less pressed the self destruct button by this point but Burns took care of that a few minutes later.

Interesting, the opta stas of yesterdays match show,keating made 7 more carries than travis,and made more than twice the metres travis did,are we being a bit harsh on him ?
