I thought mcdonnell was bang average last year but admit I didn't see that much of him. he's been excellent so far this season and has probably been our best player in our 4 games to date. At this stage of his career he is way better than eden. Anyone claiming he isn't is talking garbage. eden has plenty of potential and may go on to be a very good player but currently has massive flaws in his game

You're seeing McDonnell behind a lot better defence than Eden at the minute, believe those of us that had the pleasure of watching him all last year, if exposed in the way Eden is being, he has the ability to every bit as poop.

He's not a goalkeeper, the FB doesn't fit into defensive line structures. His game is about positional sense, decision making, diffusing kicks and getting momentum into the counter set. Now, I know who's better at all those things.

you have seen mcdonnel several times this season. I saw enough of him last year to not loose any sleep when he signed for fc. can be good, but has an equal ammount of bad games / plays.

But what you saw of him last season he was behind a terrible defence, at least that's the excuse Eden's being given.

when you have a two on one or one on one and the fullback pretty much lets the attack through instead of putting his body on the line shaun briscoe style it can be the difference in taking the two points or loosing them.

Love it put your sock away Shaun Brisco was one on his own absolutely put his body on the line even Sam Tompkins ain't a great tackler is he but grt in attack, I think Eden and McDonnell pretty much even in attack maybe McDonnell a tadge better in defense however Eden is still learning and will be a cracking full back

It more than definitely is the job of the full back to organise the defensive line, what doesn't help is having the leagues worst defensive patterns and a bunch of players too thick to follow a basic game plan.

Eden's about where I thought he'd be. He had an absolute horror of a game for Huddersfield at CP last season. He's good going forward (that style of carrying the ball aside, we noted it last week, terrible) but his positional play and reads leave an awful lot to be desired.

Briscoe is a bit of an anomaly in the modern game, one on one tackling isn't that valued, or expected any more, the ground is generally too firm and players have too much foot work.

I noticed a lot of Huddersfield fans thinking last season that Eden fancied himself a bit too much, well he needs to grow up and realise he's a young player with an awful lot to learn, he has to knuckle down and listen, someone could do with having a hard word with him. Our coach once turned a very very good winger into a bit better one, with such a reputation surely Eden should be a project that's easily managed.

Strictly speaking, he'd have signed for a better club if he'd signed for Wigan, Warrington, Saints, Catalans, Leeds, Hull FC, Huddersfield, Wakefield or Bradford. Maybe even Salford.
