| Am i right in thinking Dowes stalled on a new contract due to a proposed pay cut and whilst OCC hull AFAIK hardly seemed overwhelmed from other S.L. coaches with offers to sign him up..... and when he did re-sign because of hull's failure to capture other projected targets the majority of fans on their forum didn't seem overly impressed he had been re-signed.
Likewise the overwhelming majority of Rovers fans were delighted Mills was released so on reflection it appears most HKR fans and Mrs B were all delighted with their respective clubs aquisition and release respectively.

At last the true point comes out.
Mills was Rovers weakest Prop and was released.
Dowes is Hull's weakest and got a new deal.

She seems pleased that they retained him.
Almost as pleased as the rest of the super league.
Damn we should have released one of those 4 players and gone all out to pinch Dowes from under the grasp of Richard Agar obviously.
'"
Not at all. The thread has gone like this:
GML chooses to slag Ewan Dowes as the equivalent of Mills and specifically to mock his tackle busting as embarrassing.
I then point out that Dowes, who I don't particularly rate, as our 5th choice prop is still better from a tackle busting perspective than 4 of Rovers props, including the superstar that was the highest paid forward at Brisbane and was being touted for Man of Steel on here.
Whether you rate Dowes or not, and clearly you don't, and I don't, you'd look a complete chump singling out his tackle-busting as an embarrassment when he outperforms most Rovers props on this measure.
I note GML fails to point out in his glee at FC missing out on LMS and Fielden, that Rovers were definitely targetting Radford (a point GML himself has confirmed himself) yet couldn't manage even him.
Still, with Mason arriving in 2 days, and the tackle-busting marvels you already have, I'm sure that's all forgotten.

Nice try, but no cigar, I'm afraid. You specifically mocked Dowes' tackle-busting. His tackle-busting is better than that of Clinton, Watts, Wheeldon and Netherton. Dress it up how you like, but those are the facts.
Of course, as you confimed on here, Morgan did have a target prop, Radford, but were disappointed to miss out.

Watts 14 in 26 = 0.54 per game

Oh dear.
We could get technical and point out that Morgan has a preference for more mobile props who cover the ground quicker and get a quicker play the ball away but i fear it would go completely over your head.

Well based on last year's stats you'll wait less time to see one from Ewan than the majority of your props.

Lets see if Mrs B can come back with stats/averages based on actual minutes on the field seeing as she want more specific

| Quote ="Mrs Barista"I'm well aware of that. You said England. Dowes has played for England. Same as Dowes has made more tackle busts both in absolute terms and per game than most of Rovers props. I know you don't like it, that's why you've tried to excuse Watts on the basis of position, despite the fact that there are actually backrowers like Manu who made over 90 last year, and you've challenged it on a "per game" basis and that didn't work either. Keep digging that hole though.

You had a strop with the absolute numbers and demanded a per game number. I provided one which showed Dowes' supremacy. You tried to exclude Watts on the basis of position, which made you look more of an @rse because some backrowers can do 90+ a season. You're now asking for another set of measures which I don't even have the data to calculate. It's unlikely that Dowes would be trailing far behind this group of Rovers props as you imply, since he played 11 games off the bench, but I can see why you might want to try this as your other attempts to justify your mocking of Dowes tacklebusting have fallen sadly flat.
Face facts. He's actually not as cr@p as you'd like us to believe. It irks you that I've given you some stats to suggest he doesn't lag behind all Rovers props, even superstars Clinton and Watts, and has more tackle busts in absolute terms and per game than them, and Wheeldon, and Netherton. This is all the more astonishing when you consider his tackles + marker tackles were 741, compared to Clinton 541, Netherton 577, Watts 715 and Wheeldon 460. Big engine for Dowesy, then.
Fortunately, however, I do have the 2009 stats, which, amazingly, show the same picture (number of tackle busts and per game):
Dowes 25 1.14
Aizue 16 1.07
Vella 14 0.93
Netherton 12 0.60
Fozzard 11 0.55
In the context of tackles made (absolute and per game), it's quite extraordinary that he performs so well in both. Massive engine. Well done Dowesy
Dowes 781 35.5
Fozzard 574 28.7
Netherton 558 27.9
Vella 355 23.7
Aizue 216 14.4
The irony of you trying to hold someone to account given my sig is utterly delicious.

=#FF0000Dowes is and out and out prop whose breif will be run directly into the opposition defence and smash through it if possible.
Watts as an example is one of the best off loading forwards in the SL now.
Wheeldon is the best prop at Rovers for finding his front and getting a quick play the ball something Dowes doesnt have in his game.
As for supremacy, you should have played him in the play off game then and your season might have been prolonged

=#FF4040All very interesting, and probably true, but you specifically slated Dowes in his ability to break tackles. I'd guess this was Fozzard's and Vella's brief in 2009 (see the stats for 2009 above), but Dowes delivered far better.
Which without actual facts is just your opinion. Pay for the Opta stats, you like being sad and going onto websites and paying for information if you think it suits your needs as has been proved with clubs accounts

Morgan's response to Radford resigning for Hull was Que Sera Sera so not as disapointing as you hoped.
Wheeldon = Younger, more aggressive and his performances at the back end of last season were very good whilst the Dowes warmed his in the stands and as you state is 5th chioce at Hull now
