If you cut your salary cap by c £200-400,000 in one off season with the prospect of a further cut to £1m a year then you will get disillusioned , which the players pick up on.
When KR spent £1.6m last year you came 4th and this year £1.25m ? you come 9th , next season £1m then 10/11th ?
You are a SMALL club that borrowed TOO MUCH to keep up with a BIG BIG club.'"
Not an implausible scenario. Properly presented, it could have been the basis for an interesting discussion. It's a shame when people choose trolling over credibility.
I'm trying out 'more sad than angry' today.

Rovers will be better off next season, though, as they won't be allegedly paying at least part of salaries of Cooke and Mills who don't play for Rovers, so should get more bang for their buck. I can see Hudgell trimming the wage bill, but not down to £1m - Rovers are "only" £450k off breaking even and with Luen on board, potentially he may be joining the other directors in bankrolling part of the losses in the short term.
If I were a Rovers fan, the concern for me wouldn't be the current run of performances as Morgan has proved what he can do with limited resources already and if you can get your defence sorted will comfortably make the 8. The concern IMO is attendances. I know the 2 are sort of linked, but the fact that your gates are down on a like fixture basis for all games bar the opener (with Olly Murs) and the derby (due to a kind of away fans boycott in 2009 ) must be a point worth discussing in the context of needing a 10k average to break even. If it's a general economic downturn related point, then things look set to get worse before they get better. Plus, from a cashflow perspective, income from supporters will be down this year vs last year due to the £60 Club Rovers charge not being repeated. Absolutely critical for Rovers to get their finger out on the merchandising front in readiness for 2011 IMO as there has to have been a big opportunity missed last year in terms of timing of shirt launch and poor Christmas ranges.

The 10K break even figure would not apply if the wage costs were reduced, which for various reasons they could be significantly next year. Personally I would have not signed Joel Clinton this year with a view to getting the ship on an even keel.

Next you'll be telling us that the average fan is happy getting hammered away from home as long as the club have cut the wage bill.

We're plenty capable of getting hammered away from home wage bill cuts or not!

Agreed. We've also got Chev Walker, who'll be on a decent wage, unfortunately unable to contribute so far this year. Rovers will either try put together a squad of similar quality for less cash or a better one for the same. I'll be content with either, which is fortunate as I've got no say in the matter. As mentioned earlier, it is important the club gets on an even keel.

Yeah, Hudgell faces, on a smaller scale, the same issues as Clegg and Cameron. Raising taxes (ticket prices etc in this analogy) will be unpopular, and given that, unlike taxes, people can opt out, probably self defeating. Efficiency gains, in the Ministry for Merchandising, for example, are painless, attractive and always difficult to achieve. Certainly room for improvement there though, as you say. Cuts are the other obvious way to, erm, cut the deficit. In a League in which a number of clubs, similar in size to Rovers, are willing to run at big losses, year after year, we have to recognise that it'll be hard to compete, if we are unable to do the same.
The one hope, assuming that is the situation, is that the club can grow. If, and it is a massive if, the club could tap into external funding to get more and, crucially, better facilities it could happen. I know some on the Hull forum think I overstate the importance of the KC in the development of their club, but I don't think anybody denies it has been a very positive move. We'd still need to improve in other areas if the goal is a self-sustaining business, but that would allow Rovers to fulfil their, as yet unmeasured IMO, potential.

I honestly don't know. I'd doubt it though - they're usually for career ending stuff, I think. In sports where big transfer fees are common place clubs might have them and I think players might, to cover loss of earnings if forced into retirement.
